I'm not a big football follower, but that's pretty steep along with the loss of their 2nd round draft picks for two years on top of the half a million fine.

I consider it a fair penalty.

We all know that there aren't any other teams guilty of such as this. yeah - right. :bs: I don't condone the behavior/practice, but considering all of the things I've watched go down in the NFL with players who walk with a slap on the wrist, the punishment is extreme. jmho

It wasn't that they did it that resulted in the huge penalty.... it was the fact Payton ignored instructions from the NFL to make sure bounties weren't being paid. The league also hammered Payton for choosing to "falsely deny that the program existed," and for trying to "encourage the false denials by instructing assistants to 'make sure our ducks are in a row.' "

If Payton had of just owned up to the practice and promised it wouldn't happen again the penalty would have been less servere.... bottlmline is.... you don't lie to Roger Goodall when your hand is caught in the cookie jar.

Just like the 'spygate' stuff here in New England. Everyone did what the Patriots did, but the punnishment came because Belicheck basically thumbed his nose at the league and ignored the mandate given to the entire league. The violations themselves aren't really comparable but the 'everyone else is doing it' excuse doesn't fly..... (of course having Mangina as the coach of the Jests cry about it didn't help things ;) )

Gotta take it all in stride - and with a sense of humor. Perhaps the powers that be will re-think the punishment. :ne_nau:

Seems like a good guy. Saw a Kenny Chesney documentary "Boys of Fall" and because of his friendship with Payton, he had access to others in that business. If you played high school and or college ball, have young boys possibly getting involved in football or teenagers, this was a great insight to the game. Things I heard from my coaches and father seemed to have found there way into this film. :2thumbs:
