From the Mom's description and the mention of Tosh.0 I did a quick search for "Tosh.0 Watermelon" on Youtube and came up with this, looks like this is what was shown in class:
Warning, some pixelated, (spoof) scenes of naughty stuff in this video, but clean enough for Tosh.0..... Will move to the Rubbish Bin if requested.

It's unclear but it sounds as if the students were at the teacher computer, and the students would navigate to different youtube clips while the projector was showing the whole class as the teacher might have been watching along with them.
The way it portrays it though is that the teacher was navigating to the content and showing it to the class, I really doubt that's the case.
Either way though, the Teacher is held accountable for anything that is done on that computer via his/her login. We've got the same filter policies and student's can't access YouTube, but Staff can. We'll even run into the scenario where an innocent YouTube video plays for the class, but at the end there are some inappropriate thumbnails for related videos.
The IT Director should have displayed more confidence in his policies. It was the students who used the teacher's login. So yeah, the teacher is really getting screwed here by the way the story is rolling out, but he should have had control of the class.
