New to the forum. Would appreciate your recommendations for a lightweight (under 3lb), freestanding, solo shelter. Budget up to $350.
Vestibule preferred. 3 season preferred. But, freestanding & lightweight are the only true requirements.

Thanks in advance!

Big Agnes Fly Creek UL1. It's a roomy 2 pounder that at least for me has handled Colorado thunderstorms the past few summers. For trips to southern Utah I still rely on an older Tarptent Rainbow. Not as roomy, but keeps the bugs out.

The Fly Creek is usually on sale somewhere.

i've had a couple shires tarptents and they are fantastic. an older squall that i used for a few years in OK & AR that withstood a good number of hard rains and high winds and never failed in the least. it was not the most ergonomically designed tent tho, in's n out's were awkward and it was not frestanding. i have a newer model now that freestands and so far has perfromed fantastic. plenty of rain storms already weathered. adn condensation has not been an issue, breathes very well.

Big Sky International evolution fits the bill here (make a revolution and mirage as well) although if you use trekking poles you can go with a Shires tarptent or LightHeart gear shelter (my personal favorite)

Thanks so much for the thoughtful recommendations. I ordered the Big Agnes Copper Spur. Arrived today and setting it up this evening...in the bedroom. Baby steps.

Another vote for the Tarptent Rainbow. We went through a 35+ mph wind storm in AK and it took it like a champ!

Granted, not freestanding, but another great 1= person shelter. Take a peek.
