I am looking for a backpacking spots or car camping with day hikes. I would be taking 2 of my boys ages 7 and 9, both have backpacking trips totaling about 15 miles in 3 days. They have done overnight camps in below freezing with snow but looking for a warmer spot if possible down south. I live in North Ogden and could leave Thursday night or Friday morning and would be returning on Monday. Any thoughts or would be great, my boys are getting cabin fever (ok I am as well) and we need to get out. Thanks
San Rafael Swell/Goblin Valley are fun spots for car camping. Temps will still be cold.
Tons of stuff around St. George. Even free car camping just over the border into arizona, if you don't mind the cows.
Of course Zion NP area, Escalante, or Moab. All these areas will still be cold but not as cold as Ogden.
You could just point to a random spot on a map of southern utah and you would probably find a spot near by to camp or backpack.
Is there a certain place you want to go or see? That might help narrow it down.

Well looks like we will be hitting the Goblin Valley area. Anyone know if there is much snow there if any. I want to take the kids on little wild horse canyon. Never done it in winter, is it doable?

It's awesome in the winter!

But this winter there's probably very little snow there. It last snowed two or three weeks ago, and most of it is gone except where it's perpetually shady. Might even be a little bit of water or ice in LWH.
