What do you mean bright side? So far it looks pretty dang good. Yep, need to resolve the last four games of the season. Throw in a bye week and four games and it is a pretty good schedule considering. But I like those 8 games. And I think you misspoke. Most games will again be on ESPN with the exception of Notre Dame..... :cool2:

Yes, I wish we were in a BCS conference but I still think that is a good schedule through the end of October.

Iceaxe

I still think that is a good schedule

The schedule is going to end up with 6 Weber States.... and lose any game and its back to the Armed Forces Bowl.

The three best games on the schedule are all road games.

I'm just extremely disappointed in BYU when I think about what their schedule could have looked like....

Utah State
Boise State
Utah
Iowa State
Oklahoma
Oklahoma State
Kansas
Texas Tech
Missouri
Kansas State
West Virginia
Baylor
TCU
Texas

Six games and 6 gimme's... about like last year which had 5 games and 7 gimme's....

BYU went 2-3 in games last year and ran the table on the gimme's.... so.... I expect 3-3 in games and 6 gimme wins.... BYU will end the 2012 season at 9-3 and play in the Armed Forces Bowl.

Joshua Quezada said, "I will probably look for a program that has a pro-style offense, also, and, just an opportunity to play," he said. "That's what you are always looking for, so you are not just sitting on the sideline. So I am looking for a program that will definitely give me a chance. BYU looked really good against a quality oppenant. But that dropping 8 into coverage to hide a lack of secondary speed will get them beat against a team with a balanced attack.

BYU looked pretty good on both sides of the ball. I don't know how much beating Riley Nelson can take over the course of a season. Also, getting into the red zone 3 times and coming away with 2 field goals is a bit troubling. My hunch is that the team will emphasize that this week.

Scott Card

I agree with Leach on this. They have some guns but the qb wasn't making his reads fast enough. That team can be dangerous if the qb makes quicker reads. My hunch is that they will get much better. That front line on D was better than I expected or maybe BYU's O-line was not as polished as I expected :ne_nau:.

I think this is a VERY important game for BYU..... Could be the start of something good or something very bad. If they go 2-2, depending on their leadership, it could fracture the team and be a tough next few months. Could be looking at a 5 loss team(Utah State, Notre Dame & Georgia Tech)....dare I say 6 loss team(Oregon State).

End of the day, the team knows that it doesn't much matter....Poinsettia Bowl bound....:ne_nau:

Although I'm not a BYU fan, I will give them credit for the tough schedule. Well, and even the timing of it. To schedule at Utah, then turn around and schedule at Boise within 5 days is either a) hard core or b)being independent and not having the leverage to schedule as you wish. Either way props to BYU.

Deuce, I'm with you on the losses. Utah State, N.D., maybe G.T. and I the Beav's can shock people (apparently).

Even though Boise St. is in a down year, it will be tough to go on in and come out with a W. Being a BSU homer I can tell you that we don't get that many good teams coming into Boise so when we do, we ramp it up. I would put this game on the excitment meter somewhere along the lines of a mid-level pac-12 team, with the added element of the religious proximety. So it will be viewed as a big game.

BYU has nothing to do with the timing, it is ESPN....they are at the mercy of the Network. As far as tough....meh, it is a BCS schedule....some good, some bad.... Granted, most of the tough is on the road....

I can't decide who wants to lose this game more, Chris Peterson or Riley Nelson? Fortunately for BYU fans, Rosco pulled Riley..... Boise fans, think your AD will come pull Pete?

Deuce
09-20-2012, 09:41 PM
Holy smokes what a poor call by Rosco, going for 2.... A team that refuses to bring their kicker on the field(the only reason you even have a chance to tiechances our offense is rolling....and you roll the dice???? Between Chris Peterson, Riley Nelson and Rosco....it was like having three intoxicated 16 year old kids making decisions....

I feel for the BYU D, pitch a shutout and come away wanting.....see my fractured team post above....here we go.

Though, maybe they will rally behind Taysom Hill, who IMO has to be e starting QB from this point forward....BYU is playing for 2013, 2012 is done like dinner.....

Good god that was horrible. An embarrasement for both offenses on national t.v.

As far as BYU goes, they should be done with Riley for the rest of the year. Let the Pocatello kid do his thing and see what develops. BYU has some losses coming their way.

Boise St. just doesn't have enough talent. The only reason they are even ranked is their name. They deserve to be around the 30-40 range.

I agree, he is a serviceable QB, but even if his starting brings BYU 1-2 more wins through the rest of the season, what is the upside.

Nelson or Hill, they'll beat the terrible teams and lose to the good ones....why not build for the future, the ending of this season is set.... Unless Rosco just wants Nelson to be able to have a farewell tour through the WAC...,:ne_nau:

I think the glaring difference is that Utah still has $$$ to play for. Better record = better bowl game. Every win or loss counts for Utah, BYU knew where they were going after their first loss....done deal.

I think Utah does need to get Wilson into every game, get him as much experience as they can, but wins come before anything else....and that is wins this year. Their offense is bad enough, they cannot afford to try to teach on the fly. The way the offensive line looks, doesn't matter....Hays is going to be knocked out and it will be Wilson's team soon enough....and then he'll go down and who knows who will be taking snaps....:haha:

...and yes, Utah State is going to beat BYU.

"Indications are that Hill may need knee surgery, possibly as early as Tuesday.

Meanwhile, a source told The Salt Lake Tribune that senior quarterback Riley Nelson, who has missed the last two games with a sore back, told several people Saturday night at a church meeting that he will "definitely play" next Saturday when the Cougars (4-2) play host to No. 14-ranked Oregon State at LaVell Edwards Stadium.

Hill apparently injured his leg on his 19th and final official carry of the game, a 4-yard run up the middle. He limped away after the play and seemed to be favoring his left leg as the Cougars huddled.

At one point he grasped his helmet with both hands and bowed his head, as if he couldn

To me it looks like he is running the Skyline option offense. QB keeper party! :lol8: Yep. Reminds me of Uncle Rico. "back in '82..." Brandon, coach the team and quit "projecting" yourself into the game. Crud, he has two great receivers and doesn't use the near enough and he has a very good tight end.

Well this news will help the cougars...and the line has now changed projecting them as the favorite.

Oregon State (http://espn.go.com/college-football/team/_/id/204/oregon-state-beavers) sophomore quarterback Sean Mannion (http://espn.go.com/college-football/player/_/id/504786/sean-mannion) is out indefinitely after suffering a knee injury against Washington State, Beavers coach Mike Riley told reporters Monday.

Mannion played the entire game against the Cougars but didn't play well, throwing three of his four interceptions of the season in a 19-6 win for the 10th-ranked Beavers.

He had an MRI on Sunday, but no details were provided about the nature of his injury.

Junior Cody Vaz (http://espn.go.com/college-football/player/_/id/482557/cody-vaz) will replace Mannion against BYU this weekend. Vaz last saw game action in 2010 when he completed six of 17 passes for 48 yards.

Mannion completed 63 percent of his passes for 1,358 yards with seven touchdowns.

The Beavers (4-0, 3-0 Pac-12) went 3-9 last year but have been one of the nation's big surprises this fall, climbing the rankings after wins over Wisconsin, UCLA, Arizona and Washington State.

Well, the cougs played them tough.

I'll tell ya one thing. When your backup QB (first collegiate start) comes in and throws for 332 yards, 3 TD's and no INT's...you know you are in the Pac-12.

Looking forward to the day Utah has a guy like that on the bench.

Boise State at BYU
BYU at Utah State
Georgia Tech at BYU
BYU at Houston
BYU at Wisconsin
BYU at Notre Dame

Taysom Hill will be the guy.

As for Idaho. This will be a tough game. Someone could trip on the way out of the tunnel and get hurt. Other than that, should be a W in the win column in about 6 minutes of game time.

I think they do. The defense is a proud bunch and will do their best to have a shut-out. The offense will not pull the plug till the second half. By then I expect to be in the 30's and then the running game will go nuts.

2013 gms announced/contracted/expected--home: Utah, Texas, BSU, GT, MTSU. Away: UVa, USU, Houston, Wisconsin, ND, Hawaii. Not sure on Wazzu

Apparently we just added UVa yesterday or today??? Fun home schedule.

BYU, Virginia announce football series

PROVO, Utah (Nov. 7, 2012) — Brigham Young University and the University of Virginia today announced the schools have agreed to a home-and-home football series for the 2013 and 2014 seasons.
The Cougars and Cavaliers will meet at Scott Stadium in Charlottesville, Va., on August 31, 2013, with the second game being played at LaVell Edwards Stadium on Sept. 20, 2014.
“I really like this series with Virginia,” said BYU director of athletics Tom Holmoe. “It’s been more than a decade since we played at Virginia. It should be a great game for BYU fans in that part of the country and will provide a unique travel experience for both teams.”
BYU and Virginia have previously met three times in football. The first meeting was in 1987 at the All-America Bowl in Birmingham, Ala., where the Cavaliers defeated the Cougars 22-16. The two teams met again in a home-and-home series in 1999 and 2000. Virginia won the first game in Provo 45-40 in 1999. The Cougars won in dramatic fashion the following year at Virginia 38-35 in overtime. Down 21-0 at halftime, BYU scored 35 points in the second half on three Brian McDonald touchdown runs and two Bret Engemann passes. Owen Pochman kicked a 26-yard field goal in overtime to give the Cougars a victory in LaVell Edwards’ final season as head coach.
Virginia was founded by Thomas Jefferson in 1819. The Cavaliers began playing football in 1888 and are a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). Virginia has played in 18 bowl games and had 42 All-Americans.
BYU was founded in 1875 and played its first season of intercollegiate football in 1922. The Cougars have appeared in 30 bowl games and garnered 71 All-Americans.
BYU has been ranked in the Top 25 during seven of eight seasons under head coach Bronco Mendenhall (http://www.bogley.com/staff/m-football/bronco-mendenhall). The Cougars have captured at least 10 wins in five of the past six seasons and are No. 12 nationally in total wins since 2005.

A little tidbit from Cougar Tracks by Greg Wrubel

"With today's news, BYU now has future football games set up with:Notre Dame, Texas, Nebraska, Michigan, Wisconsin, W. Virginia, Virginia, Georgia Tech, Cincinnati, Boise State, Utah, Southern Miss, USU, Houston, Hawaii, Middle Tennessee St., East Carolina, and Central Florida."

It's brutal but fun to be independent with the variety. :cool2:

The video of the fight.... Whoever the guy that comes in at :33 of the first video to rear back, blindside hit a guy that isn't even looking at him, should be real proud of himself... What a punk.... For the record, I have no idea who each kid/player is....I am assuming that the instigators are the football players, the longsleeved gray shirt being Zac Stout and the cheap shot artist being Sampson....though that is 100% assumption.

I bet the fight was just a good excuse, in truth, Rosco was just embarrassed that he has a LB on the roster that can't hold his own against a buck-forty college student in a taco joint.

It would be interesting to hear who all the other kids were, if they were students ect. Seems like there were at least 2-3 other kids fighting along side the football players....(hitting #140 while he had gray long-sleeve down) and popping the girl....

From a fans perspective an independent schedule gives the fan a lot more to look at than playing UTEP and Wyoming every year. Look at some of the games they have scheduled in the near future due to thier independence and freedom with the schedule. They are going to have some pretty fun games to watch. Roscoe will be Roscoe but I think it opens it up and lets the fans watch a few interesting games.

Once they lose the first big game what is left to play for? Unless they go undefeated, I see no way to the national championship. It is the same for the Irish. If they lose they are out.

I think they're better off independent than joining a subpar conference. They just have a bit too much baggage for ^those conferences I guess (BYU TV, Sundays, etc)
