SALT LAKE CITY - Reports are indicating that Norm Chow is leaving the University of Utah to become the next head coach at the University of Hawaii.
The Honolulu Star Advertiser (http://www.staradvertiser.com/sports/breaking/NORM_CHOW_SELECTED_AS_NEXT_UH_FOOTBALL_COACH.html? id=135942508) states that Hawaii administration "has authorized athletic director Jim Donovan to negotiate a contract to make Norm Chow the next Warrior football coach."
Depending on how the negotiations go, the official announcement should be coming within the next few days.
This will be Chow's first head coaching position. It is still unknown if he will take any of Utah's existing coaches with him to the islands.
Chow was brought in to help Utah transition into the Pac-12, but the Utes struggled offensively after starting quarterback Jordan Wynn was sidelined with a shoulder injury.
The Utes rank 110th in the nation in total offense this season, only averaging 309 yards per game.
In 2010, the offensive coordinator duties were shared by running backs coach Dave Schramm and wide receivers coach Aaron Roderick. Whether the Utes choose to promote within, or look to someone on the outside, like former UNLV head coach Mike Sanford, Utah's offensive coordinator under Urban Meyer, remains to be seen.
