Record TV without DVR

I got rid of my DVR's and I need some options. Record to a laptop or desktop somehow and play it back? I have Apple computers...

How about an inexpensive digital recording device of some sort?

What about live sporting events? Playing them in delay or a few hours later?

Just about any live sporting event worth watching is available a few hours after the fact.... particularly the pay-per-view stuff.

But I never watch sporting events after the fact... I just have no interest in a sporting event after it has occurred. The only reason I'd use a DVR is to watch the network programing and torrents work great for that as all the shows are up a couple hours after the fact.

YMMV....
