BYU, Boise and Air Force to the Big East is the latest rumor.... They will make up part of the Western Division.

The Big East is really scrambling to try and keep their AQ in the BCS. The sticking point for BYU, Boise and Air Force joining the Big East is they are not guaranteed the Big East will keeps its AQ.

I guess the good news for BYU is the Big East will do just about anything to get them, including letting them keep their TV deal that caused the Big 12 to drop them like a rock.

BYU has been invited to join the Big East as a football-only member, but, for now, BYU has not accepted the invitation, according to a Washington, D.C. columnist.

BYU "has a conference that desperately wants them for all of the right reasons and have given them every indication that they will acquiesce to their expectations," Williams told the Deseret News. "But is that enough to get them to get their football program to leave independent status? I don't think anybody knows at this point in time.
"At the end of the day, the Big East has done everything to accommodate whatever it is that BYU wanted," Williams added. "But it's really going to be up to the (BYU's) Board of Trustees as to whether or not that's what they want. No matter how well you charm them, or how well you give them whatever they want, it really comes down to whether or not the Board of Trustees feels this is in the best long-term interest of the university. My understanding is that BYU is willing to accept an invitation. It was told to me that if it were up to (athletic director Tom Holmoe (http://www.deseretnews.com/topics/1912/Tom-Holmoe.html) ) and (President Cecil O. Samuelson (http://www.deseretnews.com/topics/482/Cecil-O-Samuelson.html) ), they would be in. But it's not. It really is up to whether the Board of Trustees give them the okay."

The Big East is in turmoil so who knows.... but.... BCS Conferences don't extend invitations unless they are sure it will be accepted. I can't think of an invitation that has EVER been declined.... I'm pretty sure this is a done deal that just needs to have the I's dotted and T's crossed.

FWIW: The PAC never extended an invite to any of the Big 12 schools last year, they were only in discussions, which broke down at the end.

Anything has to be better than watching anther Idaho State or New Mexico State game.... big YAWN...

agreed!

hopefully BYU keeps most of it's current setup with tier 2 and 3 broadcasting as well. playing for a conference championship will also be sweet. i think this is the best case scenario for BYU and their situation. MWC<INDY<BEast<B12<P12

This deal does give BYU it's national audience it wants so badly... travel expenses are going to suck big time. That is what killed the old 16 team WAC.

yep... crazy. perhaps they make more money staying independent, but man, it's hard to be a BYU fan anymore. this is the lamest weekend of college football i can remember. thankfully the lions and the packers are squaring off on thursday.

A person familiar with the negotiations tells The Associated Press that negotiations between the Big East and Brigham Young have broken off and the school will not be joining the conference.

The person spoke Tuesday on condition of anonymity because the conference and school have not been making their talks public.

The Big East was trying to add BYU as part of its plan to expand westward and become a 12-team football league.

At issue are television rights. The person says BYU wanted to retain the rights to its home football games and the league could not agree to that.

No other school in major college football playing in a conference has such a deal.

I feel bad for the BYU fans.... I don't care how many garnishes you put on this Independence sandwich, its still a turd sandwich.

Looking at all the fans dressed as empty seats at last weeks game tells you a lot.
