All of these arches are located close together in Horse Canyon about an hour's sandy hike from the Salt Creek TH. Last time I was here jeeps also were able to make their way down Horse Canyon. Didn't see any evidence of vehicular travel this time. One of these times I'm going to make it further downstream. I'd like to see some of the other arches and the 13 faces site. Might need a new hip first.

I've been waiting for the road to open up again.....it's been closed pretty much all this year....and probably longer. Maybe one day...

A total of 33 faces. Tough to resist a crowd like that. I reckon the way to do it is to get an overnight camping permit and pick a cool day to trudge up the canyon. Have put it on my do before you get really real old list.

A post of yours inspired me to take the road on Monday to the Robidoux Inscription. I expected to see signs alerting me to its location, but the only ones I saw were written on the many old tires on fences declaring No Trespassing. I actually drove about a half mile up Middle Canyon Road before an employee for the fuel company heading the other way stopped me to advise that my Ford Focus wouldn't like the road conditions ahead. I inquired about the location of the Inscription and he set me straight including the fact that it was on private property. He said the rancher/landowner was bit cantankerous, but if I did chose to trespass onto the property that the owner probably wouldn't shoot me.
I drove back to the road junction where the corral and Inscription were situated, but from the roadbed itself I still couldn't actually see the 1837 writing. Another fuel company employee drove up. He said the rancher's name was Lee and that Lee had had enough of vandals and other disrespectors of his property. Since I only wanted to take a couple photos, the truck driver encouraged me to just sneak up and take them and if the rancher did show up . . . why, just say, Hey, Lee, Hya doin'.
So I did sneak up to the side of the corral and snapped a couple photos the whole time bracing for buckshot. None came. From the roadbed I did take in the various and amazing pictographs in the area. And that basically ended my latest trip to Utah as I headed off to GJT and the flights back home.

I was just in Horse Canyon on Monday the 5th. I was searching for 13 faces when an thunderstorm sent me back to my tent. (30% chance) It was supposed to be the start of a 5 day solo from Horse to Upper Salt Creek. Steady rain all afternoon, night and I bailed the next day. At 10:30 AM it was 60 F. I live close enough that I will head back.
I was not alone!
