I got a call from my friend Kory stating he wanted to get his boy out for his first backpacking trip towards the end of July. We had one planned in August with the boys, there was no way I could say no to the Wind Rivers. For the past five years we have been searching for the Golden Trout in the Winds. Five years ago up in the North end of the range part of our party found 2-4" Golden's in a lake. I went another way on a day hike so I missed out.
This year we struck gold, nothing to massive. We had a good time minus the mosquitoes, they were horrible, the worst I've ever seen up there. We manged to survive them for the next two days. Kory's boy did great for doing 8-10 mile day hikes up and over 11800' saddles, then back over them again.

Here are a few pic's from our trip.

I hit a little stream full of Goldenseal in the Winds last summer and must have caught close to 40 that day bur the biggest was 14 inches. I found a pool with some residual spewing activity and worked it for two hours but couldn't catch any of the spawners. Gorgeous fish.

That's the fun your having while I'm home with your kid. Love your pic's babe. When are you going to post your August wind river photos? I'm sure they would love to see your big golden trout.

Great pictures wish I made it up there this year. I stumbled on to Golds on the reservation side a few years back. I knew I hooked into something special when the fish took to the air multiple times. Golds are honestly ten times the fight of Windriver Cuts.

Ladd, I remember that big gold nugget you found, wasn't it about 22" long and a couple of pounds? Awesome hike and surroundings. JRW

He guys....thanks for joining on Bogley. Next year Richard with your extra week of vacation we will go after the Goldens in the lakes. JW, I hope your hooked for life now, I will put the pic's from our trip on next month. I thought I would split out the two trips. Make sure you check out all the trips reports, I'm sure you and Richard will find some you'll be interested in.

Homerj,

You might want to look at this boot, the Bitterroot GTX has treated me good over the last 2 years. This new design looks even better then the ones I have now, check out the link:

Goldens are quite plentiful.......we hit few lakes without them on our trip a few years ago.
