Remember the Women Wounded Warriors trip I posted about? Well it finally happened after 2 postponements!

It was a collaboration between Common Ground of Logan, Team River Runner of Virginia, Disabled Sports USA and Wounded Warrior Project. Four rafts, two kayakers, 12 women.

Of the five women vets, only one one woman was actually wounded while in combat. She was a combat medic - coolest woman I have ever met. Stabbed by an Iraqi, shrapnel through the gut which left her holding her intestines, and broke her back while carrying one of her wounded men back to the humV after a bomb went off (never to walk again but she walks just fine) - on top of battling breast cancer 2x. She's only 27! Tough as nails. How lucky she ended up in my boat!

We camped on the river 5 nights. Mosquitoes weren't horrible but definitely the worst on the first 2 nights, then no mosquitoes at all after the rapids started. Flows around 5,000 cfs so mostly class II rapids and a few class III that we scouted.

I got to row on the oar rigs for the first time - loved it!
