So much for black bears being nothing to worry about :eek2:. Glad that thing was euthanized before it killed someone.

It's also a compelling argument for carrying a handgun when you're out backpacking in bear country...

My brother had an incident with a black bear back packing in the Uinta's. He was fishing in the back country with a friend. They had decided to turn in for the night. When he awoke to the feeling of what was to be like a wet dogs nose pushing on and sniffing his face through the thin walls of a small dome tent. The animal ran its paws up an down the tent walls pushing them in, like a concave fashion. Luckily he had a .22 pistol he carried with him and fired a few shots into the air out the door of the opposite side of the tent. The bear didn't leave the camp site. They had never seen a bear in this area before and didn't think about storing their food up high, in fact it was in the tent with them. They decided to devour several days of snacks and food to rid the tent of the odor. The two got very sick from devouring their food in minutes (which consisted of a lot of dried back packing meals, which in no doubt expanded in their stomachs). He said he could have won one of those eating contests. After firing more shots in the air the Bear eventually left. I know its a bitter funny story, but he's very lucky no one was hurt.

No kiddin', all those shots whizzin' around from his pistol. Lucky indeed!
