Never had the pleasure of meeting Chris Moore, but his guidebooks led to me to many amazing places in Utah.

Chris Moore, 47, passed away at his home in Thompson Springs, Utah on July 17, 2011.
Chris was born Jan. 16, 1964 to Carolyn Sue Whitt and Wayne Edward Moore in Maysville, Ky. He grew up in Moorehead, Ky., where he attended school. His father passed away in 1977 and in 1985 he and his mother moved to Moab.
Chris worked for the National Park Service and U.S. Forest Service most of his life, with his favorite hobby being arch hunting.
On Sept. 13, 2003, he married his sweetheart, Tracey Jo Heckathorn, in Glenwood Springs, Colo. They lived in the Denver area and then moved back to the Moab area in 2008, living in Moab, La Sal, and then Thompson Springs.
Chris had authored books on where arches could be found in the area, and he was a member of the National Arches and Bridge Society.
He is survived by his wife, Tracey; daughter, Jenessa Lynn Heckathorn; son, Tyson Harold Heckathorn; and mother, Carolyn Sue Moore.
He was preceded in death by his father, Wayne.
A viewing will be held Thursday, July 21, from 5 to 7 p.m., followed by a Celebration of Life starting at 7 p.m. at Spanish Valley Mortuary in Moab. Graveside services will be held at a later time in Moorehead, Ky. at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens under the direction of Northcutt and Sons Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to help with funeral expenses.
