Hi all - I'm finalizing the details of my road trip to Utah (one month from tomorrow!) and would like to get input on the best spots for sunrise and sunset photos from those who know the areas. I have the book "Photographing the Southwest" which tells me the best time to shoot different locations, but I'm looking for the "if I only had one sunset, I'd go _____" kind of responses. Here's what I've got:

One Sunset and One Sunrise in Arches NP
One Sunset and One Sunrise near Monticello, UT
One Sunset and One Sunrise in Mesa Verde NP

I should note I don't mind a bit of a hike, say 5 miles R/T or so, provided the hike out in the dark is relatively well marked and/or safe for a solo female.

(I'm staying longer than this, but will be on the CO river for 4 days - these are the days before and after the river trip)

Thanks!

I'd skip the sunrise in Arches and head to Canyonlands to shoot Mesa Arch. Yeah, its cliche, but so is everything else you will probably shoot in only a 3 day span. I've found few spots as picturesque as Mesa Arch at sunrise. Another option would be sunrise at Grandview Point in Canyonlands. You can do Delicate Arch at for a sunset still in Arches if you want.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm camping in Arches, so that's where I'll be at sunrise :)

At Arches For sure window arch with turret arch being framed by the window. You have to climb a bit to get the photo!
