My wife decided to get into the whole "couponing" business as a side hobbie.

My kitchen is so full of pasta, cereal, nutrigrain bars, pop tarts, chips, cookies, and much more that is going to fatten me up for the kill.

All of the above is generally free or at least 25% of the store listed prices.

Milk for example is a good one. You can print coupons online that say: buy a quart of ice cream and get a free gallon of milk..... Well, Ice cream is 3 bucks and milk is 2.50 (give or take) no brainer.

Our local associated foods store has an add that says: buy 10 Kellogs items and get 10 bucks off... on top of that we have many many coupons that say: buy 2 packages of cookies get 1 buck off. and buy 2 cereal get a dollar off and so on. SO, for $7.50 (plus or minus a few pennies) after tax we were walking out of the store the first time with 10 boxes of frosted mini wheats. and to make that even better... the mini wheats had a deal that said if you buy 4 boxes and enter the codes inside you will get a $5.00 gas card. And the second time for the same price we were walking out of the store with 10 packages of keebler cookies that are normally priced at $3.50 per package. and then the third time we go 10 boxes of nutrigrain bars that also had the gas card promo on them.

so, under $23.00 and we got back $25.00 in gas cards. So basically we got 10 boxes of cereal, 10 boxes of nutrigrain bars, and 10 packages of cookies and they paid us $2.00 to take them off their hands. HOLY COW.

Anyway, this post had no point other than this: SAVE YOUR COUPONS, they are so awesome.

:haha: Hey now, I said my wife does the couponing. She just makes me go so that I can deal with the little one while she focuses.

Her excitement is contagious though.

Coupons are just an excuse to get her into the store to shop while she makes me believe we are saving money :lol8:

Another husband of a couponer here. I quite appreciate the tons of money my wife saves the family. You don't want to be behind her at the checkout though. :haha:

It is a fun hobby. We like giving gift baskets to people who are getting married or fall on hard times. Some of these are hundreds of dollars and have been much appreciated.

That's what my wife was saying she wanted to do this Christmas. Get a few families and barrage them with food for a couple weeks up to the holiday. I think it would be cool.

This is a wonderful idea and I already did that too. Friends of mine fell on hard times and I gave them a food hamper. They loved this food gift (http://www.serenatahampers.com/food-hampers) because they had no money left at the end of the month in order to buy food so such a hamper was very useful to them.

My wife just started this. I am VERY thankful!!!!!! We save a mint! Wish we had been doing it for the last few years as it would have really added up for when times are tough!

We just went into Wal-Mart Yesterday and walked away with 4 advil pocket packs, 8 packages of dishwasher tablets, and 2 jars of peanut butter and they owed us $2.00. So I threw in some tic-tacs and some dentyne mints and our total was $.92 cents.

We don't even have a dishwasher but my in-laws are now stocked up. The peanut butter is the new Planters brand that I have never tried and and the advil will come in handy eventually. But, my wife had a coupon for the tic-tacs too but it wasn't with her at the time.... Bummer

You got ripped off!!!!

Tell me about the PB and dishwasher coupons, where did you get them?

The peanut butter and dishwasher coupons came from the SmartSource insert in our Local Sunday Newspaper. From what I understand they are the same all over the place. We get 4 Sunday Newspapers every week and get 4 more from family members who don't use them. So, with the dishwasher coupons we were making .03 cents per package. The peanut butter was from the same insert but we only got 1.00 off those.

The place where we made the money came from the Advil pocket packs. Those coupons came from the internet and were $5.00 off of two packs. The packs were only 1.00 a piece so we made $3.00 per two packs that we bought. Plus the $.03 cents a piece for the dishwasher stuff.

Did that help?

Also, since you said your wife was just starting.... here are a couple of sites that may help too:
http://www.couponinthecity.com/
http://thecouponkraze.blogspot.com/
http://thekrazycouponlady.com/

the second one is the one that my wife does but she is so busy that it rarely gets updated. The first one is a great one but sometimes shows off some stupid stuff.

The other thing too is that in some areas redplum coupons dont come in the sunday papers with the smartsource... so, you can make friends with someone at the post office and they may just give you a stack of redplum inserts every week ;)
