Some busy bodies with absolutely no life of their own, who don't even live in the Roaring Fork Valley, feel it is a good idea to name the east (left) peak of Mt. Sopris "John Denver Peak".

Many consider this mountain sacred due to it's unique twin summit. I consider it sacred because it is. So now some idiots want to rename it after a rich dead white guy. I am biased, I detest John Denver's music. He did not live in Carbondale, he lived in Starwood and Aspen. Maybe they should rename Aspen Mountain instead. See the link below (if you are so inclined) to email the Board of Geographic Names.
Thanks

He slammed into the water, not a mountain :haha: He sang about the Rockies :lol8: The plane did hurt the ecological makeup of the Rockies, what's the problem :bandit:

I actually like his music. But, I see absolutely no reason to rename any geographic features. They can find something that in presently unnamed.

You probably aren't subjected to the John Denver "tribute" guys. They even look like him. Creepy.
He reportedly wrote "Rocky Mountain High" at a lake below Mt. Sopris.
I could care less.
He did do some very cool things with Windstar, and I like what he did with Frank Zappa and the Twisted Sister guy, testifying against censorship in front of Congress.
Both the East and West summits are exactly the same height. The East summit, the one they want to rename, is the summit most people stop at.

It is named after a woman, which s rare. Well, this answers a couple of questions. Molly was normal, went to Colorado and her last name was "Sopris".

Here in Utah we name unique geologic features after women's *ahem* anatomical features. (Molly's nipple, etc.) :haha:

And boy did Molly get around. Her nipple is everywhere! :giveit:

I count at least 7 peaks in Utah...

And we really don't want to publicize that. Some goody two shoes will want to change it!
