South Dakota (Rapid City and Spearfish)

Hello fellow campers/hikers,

We are headed to S. Dakota this weekend and need some camping and hiking advice. Traveling with a 5yr old. We would love to use our camper at least one night in one of the National Parks or a cool area near either Rapid City or Spearfish. Any recommendations are appreciated!

Did that trip last fall, but we left from Fort Collins instead of the Denver Metro.

We were tent camping and went primitive, so I won't be much help in the campground venue. The one at Devils Tower is good though.

The campground at Wind Cave NP is very nice and not too spendy.

Thanks all! We had a blast! Planning to move to Spearfish, SD by October. Can't wait for mountain life again. Wow, it's crazy how life is ever-changing:)

We ended up getting a camp cabin at Chris' Campground in Spearfish = awesome! Great people, great atmosphere, and nothing to complain about. It was a last minute trip, so this was easy to just pack up our linens, clothes, gear, and drive. Along the way we checked out Mt. Rushmore, Deadwood, Sturgis, Bear Country USA, Spearfish Canyon/Bridal Veil Falls, and Devils Tower.....I would recommend all these stops.
