I grew up out west and transplanted myself to DC ten years ago, and boy is it flat...Not Nebraska flat (Capitol Hill is probably higher than the sum total of all the hills in Nebraska), but pretty level compared to the West. I found Bogley looking at Uinta pictures - I go at least once a year and over Rocky Sea Pass every five years.

Anyway, I've started to explore more our here, and while the Appalachian Mountains aren't the Rockies, they aren't too shabby, either! We hiked along Seneca Creek in the Spruce Knob area, and then through the Dolly Sods Wilderness (wild blueberries lined the trails).

The little creek was filled with "native brook trout." Since I'd always caught brookies in Idaho and Utah, it was the first time I'd seen them without the "Eastern" prefix! I laughed about this with my wife. She didn't understand. I explained it to my dog. He didn't understand either, or care for that matter - he just wanted to eat them.
