I'm making my first trip to the Winds in mid August, heading into the Big Sandy basin. I usually go to the Uintas but am branching out. Has anybody been to Big Sandy Lake? Where's the best place to camp and fish in the basin? Big Sandy Lake #2, right below Big Sandy Lake looks promising for getting away from the crowds. Any suggestions?

the creek is good fishing. take some grasshopper patterns, or just toss in some live hoppers and feed the fish.

I have not been to the Big Sandy area, but there are several reports on it if you do a search on the Backpacker Magazine forum.

That is the most heavily traveled area in the Winds since it is enroute to the Cirque. But, if you head up towards Temple Peak from Big Sandy Lake the crowds should thin considerably. I haven't been in there for a long time, but I hear that there are some habituated black bears in that area so you'll probably want to take the appropriate precautions.
Good luck! The Winds are completely different than the Uintas. Bigger and wilder IMO. A very magical place.:cool2:
