Went up a few weeks ago and very little success on what has been in the past, VERY good fishing for the Dads.
Does anyone know where a good spot is with all the high water. Traps yielded 40 dads in 40 hours. Worthless!!!!!
Or regular spot has 10' more of water than usual and so the shoreline is no longer a nice gentle rocky slope......
We go up Friday and need to get enough to feed 30 people!!!!!
Was thinking of dropping some traps around the marina just off the docks.

What are you using for bait?

sardines, chicken.
I called the marina. No fishing from docks, he also said get the pots in 15' of water and make sure bait is suspended and not sitting as they will just get it from the sides and not go in the pot. Also said smoked bacon in killing them right now.

Hm... round here we find them in the deep parts of creeks where the water is cool and fresh but it has to have a rocky bottom.
Have you tried inland from the delta of a river or stream?

Bob, Strawberry is full of them and there arent alot of deltas there really. We have tried stream inlet areas before and did not find the "Delta" was any more productive than the rest of the shoreline.

Well, I am gonna put another one in the win column!!!!!
We filled 2 5' round kiddie pools to almost the tops full of Yabbies. Crazy thing is we only had one small pot left over at the end of the night. Good news is we made Dad gumbo and Dad Fettichini and had another potluck party Sunday night!
Mmmmmmmm
One thing. The pots were a waste of time. 5' - 10' - 15' deep no matter, average catch was 5 or 6 after an hour soak. I could get 5 in a single butteryfly net swipe! Must figure out how to build an effective trap!
