Here we are just about the middle of July and it is still cold enough to have some mounds of snow at 10,000 feet. Couldn't take it any longer. A friend told me he rode his bike up to The Spine from Guardsman and back on Saturday. Well, yesterday (Sunday) another friend and I made that ride but went all the way out and down to Lake Desolation. Man the Desolation water level is the highest I have ever seen it. But no shocker regarding the record snow fall this winter. Crossed 3 good sized mounds of snow heading out towards the Towers and just beyond. Had to hike a bike it, but not too bad. Being that it was raining and all, it was cooooold. Was drenching wet and muddy as a couple of hogs in slop by the time we got down to Mill D. Had to make a b-line to the car wash and spray down the bikes. By the time we got to my house, the look on wifey's face was... 'why didn't you just spray yourselves down too?' :crazycobasa: Anywho... a shower, couple of cold ones and laughs... called it a weekend.

Thanks for the report. Does it look like many have ridden the trail this year? When do you think it will be 100% ready without hiking?

sounds like too much fun to me. All of these will probably open up just in time for fall to hit...LOL

I'd say by the end of July... no snow to speak of on the Crest. A word of caution.... On one of those snow drift mounds... about oh....7 foot high.... I noticed a sink hole. Man.... with the snow melting.... walking across that and dropping in...well.... that would not be good. Had to warn a friend who rides that trail solo.
We saw tire tracks as we were descending just on the Mill D trail head side of the track dropping down into Mill D from Desolation. Two days earlier, a friend of mine said he rode out from the first part of Puke Hill to The Spine and back to the gate of Guardsman Pass road where he started. He saw some 10 folks on bikes that did the same. It's starting to fire up man! 'Tis the season!
