It has come to my attention that if you are not a regular contributor to bogely and you place a advertisement it is spam, but if you frequently contribute it is ok to place an ad as long as it is not excessive (Is that correct Shane?) Therefore I plan to post more frequently so my big advertisement will not be deleted.
That being said I have noticed a difference in opinion on what happens within the canyoneering community. I understand that there are many different opinions about a certain Association and I expect to be ridiculed seeing how I live with in the confines of the ACA stronghold (Cedar City).
So here's my story: As a student at S.U.U. I have been given the privilage to assist with the S.U.U. conference which is co-sponsored by the A.C.A.
The conference is partially for the benefit of students who are getting into the sport. I would appreciate being able to hear the different opinions so I can make the conference worthwhile to all members of the community. Please respond and let me know what you would like to see in a conference (topics, Speakers ect..) or if you would like to be involved in anyway.
Thanks for your time,
Gumbi

Perspectives on what?

You've tossed a softball out there Gumbi, and there are lots of people standing around with bats, but no one knows where they are trying to hit it. I think you will have to come up with a more specific question or two or ten in order for us to know what it is you are trying to get at. There are plenty of people here ready to help (in other words, bored) who would be glad to pitch in, if they had something to express an opinion on.

Tom :moses: (representing the techno-geek/Great Old Broad/Socialist/Gay/professional wing of the canyoneering community) :crazycobasa:

I am new to the community too but this seems to be a backward of a way of asking for help! Rather than picking a fight on line with bat wielding, salty canyoneers who eat gumbies for breakfast, might I suggest an alternative approach. First I would recommend apologizing to the community. Now mind you we have a congressman who is busy apologizing but I don't see him getting much traction.:lol8: So recognize that sometimes we take an approach, it is boneheaded, and there is no going back. However I recommend that rather than pissing people off and then asking for help, you would get much further by considering contacting important members of the canyoneering community privately by email and first complimenting them on their canyoneering prowess, influence, sexiness etc. and then asking for their help. A little sugar goes a long way even if you live in the wrong town. Just saying.

Sorry for the rant but I've got a few private messages that were uncalled for so that was a broad reply to those folks.

Tom The question I posed is "what you would like to see in a conference (topics, Speakers ect..)" to elaborate I know there are many different perspectives about Associations, NPS, the future of canyoneering ect... I'm interested in hearing those opinions and implementing those issues into the S.U.U. conference.
Deathcricket: yes I am posting to post

Felicia: The conference is still in the planning stages we have lots of ideas but I am more interested in what the community wants or more specifically what topics to cover.

Hummmm...kinda like which came first: the chicken or the egg?

Humor me: Who is "S.U.U." and the "students"? Who is your audience? What is your expectation of baseline presentation material? How much time to you have?

I have to agree with Tom's comment.

And ya, I'm also bored. :haha:

This is pretty much the case with any forum on the internet. :cool2:

Southern Utah University, The base of all conferences has been things such as canyon etiquette, leave no trace, a canyon clean up is usually involved there are also skills practice workshops ect... The land management agencies will also be involved in some way. A film fest will happen this year at which the "Gorging" film will premier. I have several ideas for keynote speakers such as members of the group whom recently made it through the Subway, Maybe those from the "Gorging" film, An acquaintance suggest Tom.
Sorry if I have been unclear but my mind and fingers don't always communicate well with my keyboard.

Read the following link, if you still have questions feel free to ask.

Bogley and Spam (http://www.bogley.com/forum/showthread.php?38666)

That is our official policy, or at least it would be if we actually had an official policy.

Therefore I plan to post more frequently so my big advertisement will not be deleted.

We hope that you participate on Bogley for your own enjoyment and for the benefit of other members. If your reason for participating on Bogley is to advertise your involvement would probably be considered spam and your advertisements deleted. Some might find advertising much easier if they just contacted management about purchasing advertising space.

I hope you stick around and become a valued member of Bogley. :2thumbs:
