We went down to Larry canyon on Tuesday/Wednesday to try our hand at technical canyoneering. This was the first technical either of us had done, and it turned out great. We parked a car at the exit point and rode our mountain bikes to the trail head. We ran into a lot of water through the first part. With one pool over our shoulders and one chest deep and several over our wastes. This, of course, just added to the adventure. The first couple rappels, dropping you into the unseen abyss, were great. And the last couple, though more open, were also a lot of fun. We did have some causalities; torn pants, holes in backpacks, two pairs of sunglasses, one wrist watch, one water bottle. All victims to the canyon walls. This didn't take away from the good times though. The hike out of the canyon bottom to the car was long and painful, but it made the joy of seeing the car that much greater. There was nobody else in Larry canyon, but there was one group doing the nearby 200' rappel. We headed out late Wednesday night and there were several cars headed into the area at that time. Bringing on the memorial day rush I guess. This was a great first experience of canyoneering, and we will be back for more. We were already planning our next trip on the way home!
