What bike cleaners do you use?

Just curious what kind of cleaners / degreasers / lubes you guys use for your chain, cassettes, and all your other junk.

I hardly ever cleaned the Klein, it lasted 11 years without a single part broken, although it was noisy as hell. :haha:

But I figure I should clean this Kona at least twice a year now.

What do you guys use, what are your methods?

I also hear that WD-40 is terrible just because it invites rust almost immediately. Is this true?

I really like the Rock 'n Roll Red concentrate degreaser: http://www.rocklube.com/miracle_red.htm. Being a concentrate, a bottle lasts a long time. I mix it up in a large spray bottle, spray it on the bike and rinse off with tap water. I just go to autozone, or checker, or wal-mart and pick up a gallon of concentrated engine degreaser for 10.99 or something like that. Pick up a spray bottle while you are there and voila! I am 2 years into a gallon of concentrate and haven't even used 1/4 of it yet. The stuff I use recommends a 10:1 mixture of water to concentrate so it goes a long way. Spray everything down, let it sit for a while, then hose it off. After it has all dried, lube everything up and off you go.

WD-40 is a decent cleaner and should actually prevent rust. If you use it, I would still add additional chain lube after the fact.

I was told to use Simple Green. Put it in a spray bottle. Lube the chain after everything has dried.

I just use a mild dish soap solution to clean, and a dry teflon lube.

I like the Pedro's Bike Wash- comes in a spray bottle, but I use that 'Purple Power' concentrate stuff you buy at Walmart because I go through so much of the stuff in the shop (about a gallon a month). On the drivetrain I use it straight without diluting and fog it on the rest of the bike, let it sit, hose it off & dry it, then lube everything with Park Chainlube, TriFlow or ProGold. Stick with a synthetic lube that dries and dirt will come off much easier. I follow up with Pedro Bike Polish over the whole bike and wipe it down when dry....comes out looking like new.:nod:

I use simple green on anything greasy, cheap and works as good if not better than anything else I have tried. As for lube, I use white lighting...
wd40 picks up dirt clogs your chain and gears up don t do it dude..
There are other lubs besides white lighting but it seems to work best on bike, unless it is cold, then it turns to wax...There is one lubricant I found comes in a spray can, you can only find it at a lock smith..it is called houdini. Good as it does not attract or collect dust and grime it lubricates really well...

WD40 badd. It is basically a solvent and breaks down lubricants and other foreign contaminants....left on the metal it works like a magnet for dirt and other grime. Dry lube good. WD40 works on rusted metal as long as you wipe it off and use a dry lube:mrgreen:

I have been using Triflow for the past 13 years it works great. I have tried the bike shop brands and they seemed to attract more dust and dirt.

I know I'm a little late to the party, but...

Pedro's Oranj Peelz degreaser - Works really well, and citrus based so I don't feel like I'm killing brain cells when I use it.
I use the degreaser in one of these gadgets (http://www.performancebike.com/bikes/Product_10052_10551_1030628_-1_1589008_20000_400036). I clean and relube my chain in a couple minutes. Comes out sparkley and new.
I've heard WD40 penetrates into chains and breaks down grease inside bearings. Will actually shorten the life of your chain.

ProLink Chain Lube - not sticky and works great. Used this stuff for years, and I love it.

I just use dish soap to wash the bike
