nytimes.com - The Pacific-10 Conference will start its own network on cable television in 2012 but will also sell most of its marquee football and basketball games to Fox and ESPN (http://topics.nytimes.com/top/news/business/companies/espn/index.html?inline=nyt-org) for about $3 billion over 12 years, more than quadrupling what the two companies have been paying.

It is the richest conference deal ever. The Pac-10, which is expected to announce the agreements Wednesday, is following the media model of the Big Ten Conference, which in 2007 created its own network and negotiated a 10-year, $1 billion deal with ESPN.

But a critical difference between the conferences

The pressure to win is mounting...but at least they can start paying their players. :lol8:

I still can't believe that the Utes left the Mtn. 1.2 million a year was plenty....:roflol:

Stinks that the Utes get zero, nada this year and only half next year. Guess those are the dues you pay to be in the club.

Actually.... Utah gets $2.5 million this years, which is their share of the PAC 12 Championship game TV money. Part of the deal was Utah would get an equal share in any 'new' money generated by their joining the conference.

$2.5 million might stink next to what the other Pac 12 schools are getting, but it almost doubles what they were getting. And if they finish with a descent record they can make up more by going to a better paying bowl than the Las Vegas Bowl.

Go Utes!

Ice, I stand corrected. I forgot about the championship TV money. Even being independant as a cougar fan it feels really good to shed the Mtn. But boy oh boy will Utah make some serious coin in a couple of years.... dang!:2thumbs:
