View Full Version : How do I prevent my swimming goggles from misting up in the water?

The insides of them seem to have a thin film and even when I rub it with cloth, it seems to stay there. Any magical ingredient to remove the blurriness? I was thinking of trying toothpaste with a toothbrush.

if they are fogging up i just spit in mine and rub it around. don't think i would use toothpaste. there is probably a uv coating on the insides that you would scratch. check to make sure that there isn't some type of thin plastic film put in there for protection. if you know what i mean.

Some cheap goggles also have poor lens quality.. If Spitting doesn't do the trick throw them away and buy some good goggles and all will be well.. Toothpaste will just make the issue worse :)

And then rinse :haha: That's how we do the SCUBA masks

Spit, rub and rinse has yet to fail me :haha: So much for that "film" if it's fogging up :haha:

One thing that I use for my scuba mask is toothpaste. Just a little bit (of the white kind, not the blue gel kind) and you rub it in until you can't see it. They sell an expensive cream you can use but it doesn't work any better than toothpaste. Just be careful not to add too much or it will make your eyes burn :)

It appears that the best solution would be to brush your teeth, rinse and then spit.

I used to leave a thin layer of dish washing soap in mine. Then, rinse out when I got in the water.

I like the spitting after brushing teeth option, though!

I hired an illegal Mexican to spit on mine for me.... after all.... I'm a lazy American and he needed a job.

I swim a lot, and before every workout just put a little bit of soap (hand soap, dishwashing soap, shampoo, etc....) inside the lenses. Jump in the water with the goggles in your hand to get them wet. Swish the soap around with your fingers until the inside of the lends are coated and bubbly from the soap. Rinse out very well. Voila. No more fog.

Scuba girl here uses toothpaste ONLY on brand new masks, then after that the spit/rub/rinse method works best. Never failed me before. :fitz:

After all the spit I put in mine I finally went to a dive shop and bought a bottle of this gel stuff you rub on inside and gently rinse it off, it worked so much better and lasted longer....... been to long now since I have used it :(
