Would anybody have GPS coords for Motel 6 in the Roost? I'm wanting to do Larry and High Spur for the first time on the weekend of the 18th and am wondering about whether it's best to camp at Granary Springs, Motel 6, or Alcatraz trailhead. Your opinions would be appreciated.

Motel 6 and Granary Springs are the same place. But reservations at Motel 6 sell out fast. After all, the leave the light on for you.

The head of Larry is a descent/interesting place to camp but if the wind blows at all you are completely exposed.

The Roost is a cool place to visit but camping kinda sucks/is limited.

Several nice places to camp on the High Spur Road between Hans Flat and the TH.

Hahaha! I pulled a cowboy out of that spot right there a few years ago...we thought he was dead inside his truck when we first saw him...not sure how long he had been stuck in there, but he was out of gas and weirder than hell...by the look of him he had been stuck for a bit...a bit crazed and very concerned about his cows and the thought that we canyoneers may "screw" with them...I felt like I was in the movie The Hills Have Eyes...He told us we could stay in the motel 6...thanks!....Put gas in his truck and he was off...but not before repeatedly warning us not to screw with his cows...

Heading out to the H.Spur TH; watch your map and you will cross the boundary so you are outside the park...great camping from there onward.

When entering the Roost there's a handwritten sign(or used to be?) warning people to stay away from the cows. I've always been curious about who made this sign and why.
Maybe the same people who carve shit into canyon walls drive into the Roost and "screw with cows"? I sure hope not.

That is scary and funny all at the same time. BUT, its also not that off the mark for that general area. A few years back there was a thread on a kayaking forum (the MtnBuzz) where people were chiming in all of their weird stories from the Cisco/Cisco boat ramp area. Some real strange stuff going on. I'll go see if I can find that thread and link it here....

This the sign you're talking about. I love this! Makes me laugh every time I go to the Roost. I think its up there just south of Burr pass. I especially like the "not your's" part. Is "your's" a grammatical contraction i never learned in grade school?

Sounds like this cattleman has had some trouble in the past.
