Bogley Flickr Group = Feeds Image Bar

Bogley Peeps,

IntredpidXJ had the idea a while back to create a bogley flickr group that would feed our image bar. Well, he got it setup on flickr and I got it plugged into our image bar. It is ready to roll!


All you have to do is sign-up for a free flickr account or use your existing account
Join the Bogley Flickr Group: http://www.flickr.com/groups/bogley
Post your photos to the group and add a "bogley" tag to your photo: http://www.flickr.com/photos/tags/bogley

Your photos will reside on your personal flickr page and will also be included in the bogley flickr group, which now feeds our image bar. This gives you full control of your photos, is much easier to assign credit and lets users know where each photo came from. This announcement has been posted in the BigShots section for 3 days, which gave our BigShots a chance to sign-up and post thier photos first. There are already 170 awesome pix in there! This is a factor as well. It was sorting much better the other day. We need more members in the pool or a limit on the number of photos per user. Or perhaps both... My vote is to keep them outdoor related as well. Thoughts?

I agree. Outdoors stuff only. Not so sure about limits... It's just weird how it's like the same 15-20 pictures that seem to be popping up. Or is that just how it seems to me?

Yeah I think its a combination of "interestingness" and volume, but primarily the former.

I dunno, maybe it's working just fine? Stefan caught these two shots just 4 minutes apart, I'm not seeing any of the same photo.

Oh well, maybe it's just me. I'm seeing a lot of the same handful of photos. Maybe more than 20 but certainly not total randomization.. Here's what I see after 8 refreshes:

There have been 60+ new photos uploaded since this morning and now the algorithm is delivering different photos. :popcorn:

I think it must have something to do with the stuff most recently added and it only checks back periodically maybe a few times a day at best. I bet once the Flick group settles a bit it will be a more balanced sample.

It would be much better if it was more random

Total speculation but it might give new photos a higher weight in the algorithm. I do see older photos mixed in with the new ones. Similar to how Facebook ranks their "top news" feed.

We can still go back to posting directly on the bogley user account. :haha:

I'm seeing mine up there now, so yeah it probably cycles through them with a similar algorithm to facebook, how it places the "top news" on the wall. They're all only a few days new on the bogley flickr group so it will probably settle down next week when activity isn't in spikes on there, and will most likely do the random stuff.

Yeah, gotta be tagged with bogley. This also might be why mine are showing now, they are the latest added to the group that are actually tagged "bogley", even though there are a lot more new photos.

It looks like those new photos that Beech added are rotating back out a bit. I kinda like the fact that the new ones dominate the bar for while. It gives the new stuff more visibility for a time.

I wonder if the aspect ratio of each image has something to do with the ones it picks. It seems like it is only choosing my images that I have shot in a ratio of 3:2 and displaying those. That seems to be the most common ratio that everyone shoots with. I almost always shoot with a 16:9 aspect ratio and posted those to the group.... I haven't seen one of those displayed yet. So I do wonder if that is taken into account also with the shots that are chosen?

I've been watching this for a couple weeks now.... it seems to take the pictures from two (maybe 3) different users accounts and only uses those pictures for a couple of hours before moving on to a couple new users.... and I see no problem with that.
