What say you Bogley?

My take, the team is done, meaning they will be lucky to make a Sweet 16 run.

It is unfortunate, as though not a BYU fan....it would have been fun to see if they could have made a run.

Too bad...their streak of "longest tournament team without a final four appearance" might be extended.

Word on the street is that Davies has a baby on the way... :nono: :naughty: :haha:

I understand the honor code... but this is punishing a lot of people that are innocent.... most notably team mates and fans.

My other thought is.... what good is it to be a basketball star if you can't bang a million girls?

Yet another reason it is hard to be a BYU fan.

Gotta start rooting for USC...Coaches, players, everyone can be a complete Jack-A and no one cares, just win win win!

Looks like Brandon Davies was the only one scoring for BYU during the New Mexico game. :roflol:

Really???? How 'bout them Utes... :roflol: A win over Wyo on Saturday and the Cougs are yet again, conference champs.

I was at the game. Mentally you could tell that BYU was just not there. NM played loose and BYU was tight and seemed lost. Oh well. Next game the Cougs lock up the first seed in Vegas and then off to the NCAA tournament. And Utah will go... home. :haha:

Utah wasn't ranked #3 in the nation and playing on their home floor to a packed house in one of the largest buildings in the country.

Utah isn't even a .500 team. Is that news to you? Where have been all year? Most Ute fans are waiting for a new coach. Its common knowledge, they stink.

You are correct. I should not mention the U. Not worth mentioning really. I just know the source of the ribbing and a brief reminder of the U's current suckage seemed appropriate. :haha:

BYU lost 11 points and 7 boards per game 24 hours ago. That is a tough blow. An injury of a key player is something a team can rally around. However, when a player screws up that is emotionally devastating. Everyone feels let down. It takes a few days to get your head on and go forward. We are on our 3rd string center and he can't catch. I am really curious to see how the coaching staff fixes this and how Jimmer and Jackson respond to the adversity. Hope they shoot better.

Man the Davies story is ALL over. I am watching Good Morning America and it's a top story. This has got to be the highest publicized story against the honor code. I feel sorry for him. A regular Joe at the school would be able to keep a personal mistake private. This just seems unfair to Davies.

Ah, they never get caught at USC...they get caught when they're already a pro. So no big deal for USC fans. Seems like the easy way out for my fanhood :)

I somewhat wonder if this will change how BYU handles similar issues in the future.

I can see something more along the lines of letting the player sit on the sidelines but not suit up or play. Yeah, you'd still get questions, but it doesn't throw anyone under the bus. Then handle the disciplining after the season is over.

Is his girlfriend pregnant like Unga's was? Going off my limited knowledge- it takes 9 months or so for a baby to arrive, so doing some basic math Unga was in violation of the honor code for pretty much his entire last season. If Davies messed up over the weekend then fessed up on Monday he's got a lot more integrity than Harvey had.

THIS^^^

Davies is a good kid that made a mistake. Davies was not some inter city gangbanger, he is a Provo kid that was drinking the cool-aid. He made a mistake, just like every other human on the planet...

And the school has completely trashed him. This is a 20 y/o kid and BYU has heaped all this on his shoulders, not like he doesn't already have his hands full with a baby on the way.... hell... every parent knows that is punishment enough for playing a game of hide the salami in the mommy...

In this case the punishment doesn't fit the crime...

I feel sorry for the kid and his family...

Ths is a really sad situation all the way around...I don't see that there are any winners in this case...

I salute BYU for sticking to their principles--more universities need to do so

On the other hand, it is easy to see that star athletes at BYU could become blackmail victims in the future to either unscrupulous gamblers or some young hottie who wants to get her claws into said athlete...in these days of microtechnology and digital cameras, it would not be difficult to capture absolute proof of an affair that an athlete might have and then use that proof for blackmail purposes

The most amazing thing to me concerning this whole story is, with these restrictions on student behavior, how in the heck has BYU managed to stay competitive at the highest level in both football and basketball for as long as they have? They must be doing something right.

I'm not saying the kid should have got off scot-free.... but you also don't need to administer the death penalty.

Back in the day the big joke among my friends was don't bring beer to a BYU party or all the girls will put their clothes back on and go home.

You really don't understand the honor code and BYU... you don't get in trouble for breaking the honor code.... you get in trouble for getting caught breaking the honor code. Do you really believe all those young men and women are abstaining? If so I got a bridge to sell you....

The other problem is how a violation is administered and by whom... many times a violation is reported to a bishop and handled "locally" by the bishop and his counselors.

But its their school and they can do with it as they please....

If you coach young men or women in any sport you know 'shit happens'.... and it will eventually happen to you and your team....

As a coach I ask myself one question when presented with this type of situation... excluding the team.... what is best for the individual?

And in this situation I fail to see how tarnishing the kids reputation and tossing his carcass into the shark infested media waters is helping this kid in any way.

No, I'm not that naive to think partying and sex isn't happening at BYU...I went to Notre Dame, which also had a "Code of Conduct" which we did not sign...there was plenty of partying, and while I was there, ND got rid of a running back for a sex violation of the code, and this guy was a favorite to win the Heisman Trophy the following year (ND won the national championship the next year without him)....

My Point is this....why would a big shot high school athlete go to BYU when there are many other schools to choose from where partying and sex would not really be a problem if caught? Having sex at USC, Boise, Cal, Bama, Miami, etc would not get you thrown off the team if caught, so why even go to BYU? Heck, when Bill McCartney was coach at Colorado, his daughter had babies to two DIFFERENT football players coached by her dad....

I feel badly for the guy because his mistake is frontpage news. That sucks.

However, if you don't like BYU's honorcode, you should go someplace else. I wish this guy all the best, and my heart goes out to him. But I actually respect that BYU is not selling out and holding to its principles. I also really respect that his teammates don't be grudge him at all.

He simply made a mistake. The kid grew up LDS, lived in Provo, Utah and attend Provo High school. Center of all the madness...

Check out his google results. Yikes... http://www.google.com/search?q=brandon+daviesa
