while that may have been the fastest way down the hill, he doesn't get many style points.

i hope he was ok.

i worked as part of the safety crew at the world extreme sking championships in 93 or 94. while on top of the peak a competitor just behind me fell off a cornice to his death. all i remember was he was a kid from steamboat spgs. it just takes that one instant and things turn to crap.

Caught On Camera: The Moment Skier Cheats Death After Tumbling Down Sheer Face Of Rocky Mountain... And Walks Away Unscathed

A skier cheated death and walked away unscathed after taking a horrific tumble down a mountain backwards - and caught it all on camera.

Stefan Ager, from Austria, had climbed up a mountain with friends at the Stubai Glacier, intending to ski back down.

However after setting up his helmet cam and clicking on his skis, he took a step backwards, lost his footing and ended up tumbling down the backside of the mountain.

The 15-second fall, down the almost vertical, rocky incline, was all captured on his helmet cam.

When he eventually landed , he let out an audible gasp of pain before looking up at the route he had just fallen down.

Incredibly, despite spinning out of control for much of his fall, he somehow managed to avoid being dashed on any of the larger rocky outposts - and landed safely in a snowdrift at the bottom of the mountain.

Mr Ager has become a global internet hit following his astonishing escape and he said he is thankful he is still in one piece.

He said: 'I am sooooo lucky!'

I just kept waiting for it to happen and was worried about what the outcome would be. Glad he was okay.
