Hikers need the most SAR help in Utah
I believe this is very misleading.... because hikers far out number any other backcountry sport. If you wanted a realistic figure you would need to break out the statics into:
Rescues per days hiking
Rescues per days snowmobiling
Rescues per days fishing
Rescues per day rock climbing
Yada, yada....
Headlines like the one above are nothing but cannon fodder for the newspapers....
That's what I was thinking too at first....well duh!
Then the guy asks why do you think that is on his blog...
But I did like the other page though - the more rescues in Moab part.
I'm sure Zion has it's fair share - but it's millions of visitors annually are confined between canyon walls and can't get lost to easily.
Moab on the other hand....
But I was thinking the swell woudl have more SAR incidents though..

Not surprising. There are more hikers than other sports- like Ice said. I think too that there are more stupid hikers than stupid hunters, fishermen, etc. I guess it's just what happens when there's a low entry point. If you've got legs, you can hike. Not so much for hunting, fishing, canyoneering, snowmobiling, etc.
