Good day everyone,

For the past month or so Ive been reading pretty much every trip report on this site. There are some great adventures posted. I have specially been reading about water holes in the Escalante, Canyon Lands area. One of my favorites is the Death Hollow area.

Im hoping I can get out there in a backpacking trip with the family this summer. Is there any book, website, maps you could suggest I start reading and start the process of planning our family trip for this summer?

Living in Colorado I am used to camping/hiking in the mountains. So im concerned also on safe travel in the desert. I figured Id better start asking around where I could find good beta on this area.

I was specially impressed with the following trip report

http://www.bogley.com/forum/showthread.php?39857-Death-Hollow-2&prefixid=Trip_Report

And the pictures posted in this thread from the backcountry.com site, it seems the website where they were hosted changed and I cant seem to find more information on the location of these waterholes

Thanks!

That backcountrypost.com site you're referring to is my website. I recently deleted the old site and I am migrating it slowly to the new site. I currently have one newer trip report to Death Hollow posted there and I will be posting two older trip reports soon. Death Hollow is one of my favorite places, ever. I've backpacked there 5 times so far. Email me if you have questions on those holes, I can help you out.

Here is the link to my latest Death Hollow trip that we took in September of 2010, http://backcountrypost.com/?p=141

Zoriloco, I just went through that latest trip report and added a bunch more pics and information so you might want to check it out again. I'm trying to do this with all of my trip reports to make them more in depth, just takes a bit of time. Here it is: http://backcountrypost.com/?p=141

Thank you I appreciate the help. Is there any good book of that area you would recommend me buying?

From a photographer's perspective, I would recommend "Photographing the Southwest" by Laurent Martres, Vol. 2 (covering Southern Utah). The book has pretty extensive information which I think would also be useful for hikers not really into photography.

Zoriloco, I posted another Death Hollow trip report on my blog over the weekend. This one was from June 2007 and we did it from the Boulder Mail Trail trailhead over to Death Hollow, down to the Escalante, over to Sand Creek for a night and then out to the Highway 12 bridge. This is my preferred route for Death Hollow so far but it is kind of long and requires a car spot. Here's the link to the TR: http://backcountrypost.com/?p=321

I'll be posting one or two more Death Hollow TR's there in the next week or so. Still working through all the old stuff.
