Got it.
There is still a barricade on the cottonwood road as of last Sunday.
I'll see if I have any other pics of what you call the badlands.

Thanks. I have plans to drive up the road (or take a guided trip) on March 22. Do you have any local info if the road would be open by then?

Nice pictures, Kurt, the colors out there are amazing.. Too bad Cottonwood Rd is still closed, it's one of the nicest "backways" I've been on.
