I love the Ogden River, I think it's written off by other fishermen who have the "big river syndrome" and that makes me happy, it keeps the pressure off Ogden. I've always had a hard time catching fish in this river during the winter months but I'm persistent. We had great weather this weekend so I took advantage of it and threw some flies. A size 18 zebra midge got me hooked into a 14" and a 16" trout, a san juan worm caught a 16" whitefish. The day was beautiful, the water flow was just right, and not a soul in sight the whole time that I fished. Having the river to myself was the victory and the fish caught was bonus.

The Ogden is a gem of a river. I have fished it since I was a kid. My family has a cabin in-between the Alaskan Inn and the Graycliff Lodge Restaurant. February can be a great time to fish the Ogden. If you hit the right time of the day (generally the warmer parts) fish can be taken on top with a small griffiths gnat and a small midge dropper. I love the canyon area, but it can be tricky with all the over hanging trees. I have caught consistently fish that range in the 14-16" range and it has not been uncommon to catch up to a 19". Just a quick question - Where were you when you hooked into the whitefish?
