AKA, a GPS?

A gps digital compass is fairly accurate, but only is reliable when you are moving (triangulation).

The altimeter is based on the barometer and air pressure. If a storm is coming in, it will mess up your altitude readings. If it's fair weather, it's accurate within 50ft or so.

Oh, I also own a Suunto Vector watch (including heart-rate monitor) and In my experience along with my gps, the altimeter and compass are pretty much identical on both devices. Although, my gps has a better altitude resolution (but not my much). Ahh...I love my Suunto!

sunto vector. i have one as well. although i think if you cant use a regular compass you won't be able to use a digital one either. my etrex vista c has all that except temp.

I have an older Explorist 600 it has all those things and is accurate to within 3 meters, also has a compass that you don't have to be moving for it to work.

Their new ones are even better Magellan (http://www.magellangps.com/Products/eXploristseries)

Just received my upgrade, Casio Pathfinder PAW2000T. http://www.casio.com/products/Timepiece/Pathfinder/PAW2000_Series/

I've used Pathfinder watches for the last 9 years. Compass works quite well. Once I took my regular compass to compare and it was right on. Altimeter on the hand watches are within 20' accuracy (after calibration). The thermometer is right on when left off your wrist for 20 minutes.

I am selling my old watch if anyone is interested PAW1300 http://www.casio.com/products/Timepiece/Pathfinder/PAW1300_Series/ :naughty:

thanks all !

i saw an outdoors products (?) digi compass at wal mart recently for $20 and it looked pretty cool. can't overlay it on my topo tho for orienteering like my old see thru (rest in peace...), but the other bells n whistles would be handy. think i'll try one. hell, for $20 why not ?

Because for compass, the previous technology works GREAT! Very reliable, accurate, easy to use (has a straight edge, often with a scale on it), doesn't mind getting wet, doesn't need batteries, light in weight. I suppose the ONLY problem is that it is not neato wiz-bang cool. :haha:
