Headed down to the Swell area soon for some site seeing-canyoneering research. We plan on riding most of the area from i 70 south to Goblin etc one day. Thinking of gcing North from I 70 the next day. We plan to stay in Green River. Any secret spots we should check out? Anybody know of a good ATV-Moto map of the area. I have the Nat Geo map.

The best map is the "San Rafael Motorized Route Designations" map put out jointly by the BLM, Emery County, and Utah DNR. That's the official route designation map, and it's free. You can pick one up at the BLM office in Price on weekdays. Some businesses might have them. Gilly's in Ferron usually has some. Don't count on finding them in the map dispensers at kiosks, like at Exit 131. The dispensers are usually empty.
Someone gave me one of the National Geographic maps a few years ago. I didn't think it was much good, and found some errors. It's also vague about which trails are designated singletrack.

It is now:
http://castlecountry.org/geo/SanRafaelMotorizedRouteDesignations.pdf
It's a 16MB PDF file, you might wanna click the link and do a "Save As". I don't know that I'll keep it on my server for longer than a few weeks, so grab a copy while you can.

That's the map. It's an older printing though, March 2006. The latest I have is dated July 2009.
The link above (March 2006 scan) shows the "VJ" singletrack trail (#843, between the "Green" trail and North Temple Wash) that's not currently open. Just be aware of that, and if you're going through that area, connect using "Green" and "Orange".

I've been looking at a mod that would embed PDF documents in the post. Maybe it's time I do it. :cool2:

The above link does not work. Anybody know of a current link where I can get a copy of this map?

That one's a little outdated, but for most areas it's still accurate.
This one is not the best quality, but I believe it's the most up-to-date: http://www.emerycounty.com/Travel/Maps/emery_co_ohv.pdf
