Heading to Ketchikan  for a couple of days in July for my 40th :cry1: birthday. Any ideas on what NOT to miss? Only a couple of days before going to Craig :clap:for halibut and salmon fishing, so not much time:cry1:. Thinking of contacting a Couchsurfer in the area to stay with, but we've never STAYED with anyone before, only hosted.

while your in Craig rent a truck and drive up to Whale Pass, it is well worth the trip, the bears on Neck Creek are awesome !! Also the Harris River is an awesome place to visit as well !!! If ya want I can dig up some pics of the area ? used to spend a week every other yr on the island !!!

edit: to add the little chowder shack at the cruise ship docks in Ketchikan is to die for, just get there early they run out before noon !!

Anything else you want to know just ask !!!

After a long hard day of fishin' you can have cocktails and Hors d'oeuvre's with the Eagles

And after dinner, maybe a quick trip out to see the locals

Then you'll have to get up at the crack of dawn, to do it all over again........

Take a quick trip into Sitka and check out the view. As has been said already, the fishing can't be beat. Last time I was there, I had more fun trying to keep my fish (from the eagles, sharks, and sea-lions).

Ketchikan is always raining (it gets 5 times the amount of rain as Seattle), but if the weather is reasonable, you can climb Deer Mountain.
