The old dead twisted cottonwood tree in Crack Canyon is now gone. After a bit of searching I was able to find it in a side drainage just before the subway section. Currently its frozen two feet deep into a small pot hole just waiting for the spring melt and the next flash flood to push it down canyon. I know that more then a few of you have posted some good photos of this tree over the years. I never really got anything aside from a few snap shots.

Man, that is really too bad. Could you tell what happened? Was it cut down, or was it pushed over? That tree really was a landmark (in my mind) for that trail. Thanks for the post.

I am glad to say that I did get to see that tree once!
It was a nice day, we had just finished the Wild Horse - Bell Canyon Loop, and needed more, so we Drove around to Crack Canyon.
