View Full Version : What's Outdoor Deals?

I am sure many of you have seen and are using "deals" websites or emails. They are everywhere! There are some really good deals to be found if your tapped into the right places. We had a "deal" idea sent to us by a Bogley Bigshot a while back that we have been thinking over. The idea was to put a few amazon.com deals feeds on Bogley. This will do two things for you:

1. It gives you the opportunity to see some great deals on outdoor products when you are visiting Bogley. Which can then be discussed with other members and easily purchased after discussion with others. This already takes place all over the site and more specifically in the product review section. There is no better way to purchase a product then by having it referred by a friend and seeing it in action. The feature will bring the outdoor deals to you rather than sending you into the scary Internet jungle alone.

2. It also helps support Bogley because the site is paid a commission on anything that our members purchase. This helps us keep the lights on and maintain this great outdoor community. So if you see an item that you like through a Bogley feed, please purchase it from the link on Bogley and know that you are helping to support the site.

I wish I had known this a long time ago. I've bought several items from amazon. If I could have put some money in your pockets as well with those puchases, I certainly would have done so. Good to remember for future use though. Just click on the Amazon border on the home page, and anything that I buy will help you guys out as well, right?

I hear ya, I bought my GoPro before this was set up. :doh:No big deal though. It's not all about the millions of dollars we're going to make (sarcasm font), it's also about bringing some products to the forum for reviews, maybe highlighting some items that we wouldn't have searched for otherwise, or to just give us ideas.

We figure if the bulk of bogley consumers are on certain sites too, why not incorporate that content here and save some "internet travel time". :afro:

And yes, the Amazon Deals Widget on the side, currently has "GoPro" as the search term. Just plug any keyword in there and display those ads right on the sidebar.

OK.. So I think it is great that the site now has some more ways to make cash but the whole outdoor deals thing has ruined the "new posts" button as there are now multiple pages of new posts by "outdoor deals" constantly.. Can you make it so these don't show up in the new posts section and people can go to outdoor deals section if they choose and not be inundated with unwanted for sale posts?

Ah, thanks for the feedback. We had removed them from the "What's New" menu but had missed the "New Posts". That will be taken care of immediately.

Thanks.

OK, here's what was happening... these were showing up in the "What's New" link, only for GUESTS (or users who weren't logged in). Since I'm logged in all of the time automatically, I wasn't seeing this.

It's fixed now, I basically disabled the "search" function for guests in that forum.

Thanks for the feedback. :cool2:

Outdoor deals still shows up on the "new posts" search though :(

Is this while you're logged in, or a guest?

Can you take a screenshot of which button you're hitting to see this?

I'm not seeing this when I'm logged out or in, under What's New or "Today's Posts"

Your fix fixed it actually.. I just figured out that the historical link that I use to 'get new posts' brings up all of the outdoors stuff but actually clicking on the link doesn't anymore.. anyhow thanks for fixing it :)

I received this today? Has this got something to do with the outdoor deals? When you click on the bogley link you do not see the listed post?

Looks like it was a spammer, and by the time you clicked to go to the spammer's post, it had already been deleted.

So in otherwords, no, definitely not tied to "Outdoor Deals".

....because we actually do judge people on their brand of shoes.

That sounds like a deal! :lol8:

Man, I had to delete a spammer early this morning. They are getter so damn tricky. Pesky little bastards. :angryfire:

BTW, I know Amazon is a Megaladon ecommerce site but Overstock.com and Backcountry.com are both Utah based and could use some love too. I'm sure multiple members of this site work at the sites (myself included). I'm not sure what kind of cross posting revenue you can get from them but just wanted to call it out.

How is this working for everyone? Are you finding good deals from the Outdoor Deals feeds?

I shop on Amazon all the time. Hooked on that site! :2thumbs:

I'd love to see ALL the ads taken off the Latest Posts section on the Home Page. That's a pain in the ace when you wanna just scan down and see who's posted something new. I hate to have to look thru that crap when I'm wanting to see what Bogleyites are doing

Sorry to see you frusterated remoteman. Perhaps seeing things from my perspective will help.

I had to start placing ads a few years ago when the site was really seeing growth. At the time I was moving it to it's 4th server and I got tired of financing Bogley out of my own pocket. I also wanted to improve the community for everyone. You can read a little about the history of the site here: http://www.bogley.com/forum/showthread.php?39033-Announcing-Bogley-4.0

The ad revenue and BigShot memberships have helped fund a much better software package. They also pay for continual upgrades, web hosting and maintenance.

Solution: If you click on the "What's New" link in the top red navigation bar you can see all the new posts without any of the Outdoor Deals offers.

I have to say that the ads do not bother me - I must be doing it right, cause I never see ads.
