Does anyone know the deal with the switchbacks? We do a canoe trip every may and we typically launch at minerall bottom and take out at the confluence. I heard they are working on the road but i didnt see any info or estimated completion dates. Anyone know anything? What would be the next best launch?
Thanks.

This is the latest I have heard: http://www.moabtimes.com/view/full_story/9995883/article-Mineral-Bottom-Road-eligible-for-emergency-funds-to-restore-access-to-federal-lands

I wouldn't think it would be ready by May.

What kind of vehicles will need to get to the launch? You could try Spring Canyon Bottom

We typically just use Tex's Riverways as our shuttle, leaving our vehicles at their place. I'll have to see what they are reccomending for launch locales. I'll look into the Spring Canyon Bottom. How far up wiver from Mineral Bottom is Spring Canyon bottom?

If you are brave enough, you could go all the way to the confluence. It would add a couple of days, but it would be worth it. Then you'd just jet up Colorado river to Moab. Make sure to flash the rafters on the way up ;)

Just canoed from Spring Canyon to the confluence last fall. Spring Bottom is 19 river miles up river from Mineral Bottom. We went to the confluence in three paddling days. Way too short.

Work is under way, still no definite date for a grand reopening.
