View Full Version : Where can I go snowshoeing friday? Any ideas

Trying to figure out where I can go snowshoeing friday? I have my brother in law in town and we want to get the snowshoes out but have no idea where there is enough snow to go do some hiking? I am willing to drive to get to a good trail so let me know! Thanks

How far of a hike do you want? Where are you at and how far do you want to drive to the trail head? Do you want to summit a mountain? There is plenty of snow once you get to about 8,000 feet.

In layton, no need to summit just want to be able to get out for a 2-3 hours, not die in an avalance but be able to have a nice hike.

The red pine trail is good! It'd especially fun if you bring a plastic sled with you for the ride back down. Very fun. If I remember correctly, tmarten has a video of sledding back down if you search the forums. Ive done it and it's fun.

I would recommend Donut Falls but I'm not sure of the snow coverage currently...

Oh, there are lots of places outside of snowbasin to snowshoe around. Drive up there and take a look around.

that is my normal area aro und snowbasin, but with the temps and the lack luster snowfall I wont need my snowshoes around there? Donut falls sounds good, I wll look for that video, sounds fun!

i think anyplace in illinois, wisconsin or indiana would have plenty of snow for you. :roflol::roflol:

yeah it sure would, midwest is getting dumped on while we are in the 50's crazy!

ended up going to the coldwater canyon overlook, bushwacked a bit and made for a great day, put the snowshoes on at the base of the trail and it was coooold up top. With the recent snow I am thinking of going back up this friday.
