upload--.75mb
ping--87ms

seems pretty good to me.

So--looking at beech and accca's #'s, they are fairly close but beech's latency is faster, acca's download is faster. Who's computer works faster given these #'s?

Our skywire is slower than what Baja offers, but not worth the extra $10 a month. Can you verify that you're only paying $30 for those speeds?

right, but considering we all dont live in the same place ping times are irrelevant in a speed test.
You live in Canada and I live in Utah, If we both ping the same server in San Fransisco of course our ping times will vary.

Very true - but on speedtest.net, they choose the closest server they can find, which should give an idea of how fast your ISP is routing traffic. For a situation like ststephen, he's probably pretty close to his office, when he's using his home internet connection. When he travels, I'll bet things lag considerably.

I just checked my bill. I pay $32.20 each month. I've been with them for about 2 years. I originally signed up for phone and internet service for $60 a month, but dropped the phone service and went with their lowest speed internet.

I bet most people don't care about ping like I do. If you use your internet connection only for web browsing, streaming video, email, etc. any decent ping speed is probably about equivalent. But when you log onto a remote system and actually type directly to it, it really matters. Or, if you were doing lots of small interactions with a remote server, e.g. running some special purpose application that hit that server's database you might care about ping time.

Where I find ping important is in my internet phone. I used to have an internet with about 10mb down load and a 1.5 upload, which isn't bad, but the lag was terrible it was 300 to 400 ms. The conversations were all broken and It was almost impossible to use. Here's my new internet at home that runs on fiber optics and it works much better than the normal phone lines.

since all these rates can vary a bit for a single person, it's worth taking many samples within a short period of time as well as at different times of day and/or on different days and then taking an average

This explains a lot!!!!! We used to be a small company and were then bought by labcorp a couple years ago. As soon as we were migrated to their server in North Carolina, we started to have many issues with our network. Brutal. :roll:
