It was finally that time of year but I had no tag :cry1:. Luckily My kid DJ had a tag:2thumbs:

The Hunt started on a Wednesday so we headed south Tuesday after work. We camped in the desert near the Lasal junction and left with the sunrise toward Pine ridge. We spotted a nice 3 point but DJ couldn't get a shot and we saw lots of does and fawns that day.
Thursday we headed to the Blue mountains and hunted out of Monticello and Blanding camping near Dry Wash for the rest of the week. We saw several bucks (one huge), lots of does, cow elk, a few bull Elk, tons of turkey and various other cool critters.
DJ passed on a few smaller Bucks and was never able to get a shot off at the bigger Bucks but what a great week of camping and hunting in the mountains! :cool2:

Just a few pictures from during the trip...

Yes, we used a 50 caliber barrel on the Thompson Encore. It's a great set-up, we just needed a little more luck. Sometimes you put yourself in the right places and do all the right things but the big bucks instinct won out this time. DJ may go back for the rifle hunt and try again.

Love that area. too bad it's such a long drive from the wasatch front.
We usually take the horses down and camp at Medicine Lake on the LaSals or at Foy Lake on the Abjo's and ride the area.
Both lakes offer water for the horses.
