We will be visiting Moab Oct 12 to 17 for climbing and exploring. Done all the tourist paths in the past years. Eager to explore the hidden splendors. We are Experienced climbers and mountaineers, familiar with anchor, rappell and rescue systems.

Seeking information of fun canyons to explore .

The ones I know off are Medieval chamber and Onion Creek..

Saw people with ropes at the trailhead to corona arch... said they did a canyon... which one would that be ??? are there any books for moab ? I have Kelsey's books but not too much in moab in those ones.

anyone have any other suggestions ?

We'll be camping along the Colorado

social butterflies that we are.. any bogley meetups at the moab brewery during that time ? We'd love to meet some locals over a beer.:)

cheers,lofty

more than likely, Cameltoe. Its the canyon next to Corona. I've done that one at midnight to 3am before, and right after a rainstorm when every pothole was filled up and the last rap was a mini-waterfall. Pretty cool actually.

but that reminds me, I need to upload a picture of my surgery scar for you guys. It looks like a zipper.

Oh, and no lofty - No story about our adventure at midnight through it. That day is when we did U-Turn, Tierdrop, Dragonfly, Corona Arch (3x) and then cameltoe. We started at 8:30 at the Park Avenue trailhead, and didn't get done with our day till 3am. NOT recommended if you are smart!

Canyoneers at the Corona Arch TH mean Cameletoe.... there are two way to do the route.... The first is for beginners/intermedates and the second is for intermedate/advanced canyoneers. Both routes are detailed here:

Cameltoe

FYI: Cameltoe during a flashflood is awesome

Cameltoe in flood stage

There is nothing really deadly about Cameltoe during a flash flood, so long as you understand the required skill level ratchets up one or two notches. Same is true for Medieval Camber, Tierdrop and a couple of other routes.

Dang - I'm headed to Moab this Friday till Tuesday. Then I'm off to Yosemite and Sequoia in Cali. It would be cool to meet ya and your gang...but I'm leaving just as your arriving.

Oh, be sure to hit up Pleaides. It's a good one!

I was gonna ask about this. Since the weather might make other options unpleasant, I am wondering how Pleaides would be this time of year with all the recent rain... I dont think the rain would effect it too much, and even if it did, this late in the year the flow would still be pretty low? Or am I way off?

The rain should not be a problem but ice could be, we tried to do it last year at the end of October. When we got to the spot to drop in everything had a nice sheet of ice on it. We were early in the morning and if we had been there at noon it may of melted off so I guess it depends on how cold it has been? It was a slick *******. Were headed down tomorrow and my wife has never done Pleaides so if it is warm we may try it this weekend I'll report back if we go.

We did not make it to Pleaides, we ended up hitting Zero Gravity, Elephant Butte and Undercover. Had never done any of those three and they were all fun canyons. In Z.G you're just bopping along and then you come to the end. Getting out of there is a little entertaining.
I wish there was an easier way to get out to the Winter Camp area, talk about going from Hell to Heaven in the scenery dept. I had jeeped thru that area years ago and never new anything was out there. Maybe the Park Service could punch a road thru from Delicate Arch?:haha:

I wish it was in Moab:angryfire: We headed over one day and motorcycled the White Wash Sand Dunes and then headed over to Z.G. before heading back to resturants and white sheets.:clap:It was unbelievable what last weeks rains had done to the White Wash area, impressive.

If headed to Zero Gravity the road was pretty beat up. We rode our dirt bikes in but it would of been sketchy in my truck.

I assume the road was good until Iron Wash? I've walked in from Iron Wash several times and it's not a big deal. Only 10 to 15 minutes extra of easy road walking each way.

There was a wash prior to Iron Wash that had 2' banks on both sides. Any reasonable 4 wheel drive that is not as long as a school bus would be able to do it. Iron Wash had a 2-3' drop to get into the wash. The bank at Iron Wash would of high centered my truck.

For those contemplating putting in the time to get over to Undercover I highly recommend it. By Moab standards it is one of the better ones. It is an actual canyon. Good rappels and some skinny stuff. My kids thought it was the bomb. We headed out Sunday afternoon on our way home and after seeing what is out there we wished we would of headed out earlier and done some of the other routes. Took us two and half hours to make the loop. You could easily spend a day out there doing multiple routes. Who would of thought in some of the ugliest country around there would be that nice little canyon. Perfect one to do on the way to Moab or the way home. I'll try to get some pictures from my buddy who brought his camera.

FWIW: Undercover, Winter Camp and Repeat Jr are all what I would call "real" slot canyons and not the typical Moab "route". In my unofficial definition slot canyon means longs sections of deep slot that are narrow enough you can touch both walls at the same time. They are good cool/cold weather slots as they are normally dry.
