Ok so heres the idea for this thread. I am an oncall engineer, I need to have cell phone reception where ever I go. I have 15 minutes to respond to a page. lets list all hiking areas that have cell phone reception. So far I have found the following:

pretty much any ski resort has reception
Snowbird
Alta
Brighton
Solitude

some other trails
red pine trail
white pine trail

any others you have would be greatly appreciated.

you may want to say who your carrier is as well.. I have been on hikes with people where I have had no service and they had full bars and vice versa.. phone can also make a huge impact on if you are getting signal or not..

I know Bair Canyon (Fruit Heights) to the Radar Towers get reception all the time, as well as Adam's Canyon (Layton) gets reception the entire time too. Waterfall Canyon (Ogden) gets it the entire time too. Well, at least with the iPhone and AT&T you do.

Oh and Angel's Landing I can get cell phone service all the time except for Refridgerator Canyon all the way up to Walter's Wiggles.

On Timpanagous, the trail up to the large basin you can get reception but when you hit the basin I got zero. Past that area, it comes back.

Oh, and Pfierrhorn and Mt. Olympus get good reception too. Pfierrhorn reception goes away once you hit the scree slope, but once you pass that, it's good.

I use Verizon, and I have service in most of the San Rafael Swell, which is where I do most of my hiking. I often am able to send mobile uploads to Facebook, and usually at a minimum I'm able to send a text when necessary to let my wife know that I won't be home for dinner. :haha:

On AT&T, in the north part of the Swell we generally have coverage as long as we can see Cedar Mountain.

Most of the Wasatch has cell reception. Upper Millcreek Canyon, unless you summit a peak or hit a ridge, pretty much has no reception.

Others where I know my phone works:

Grizzly Gulch- Little Cottonwood

Catherine Pass- Little Cottonwood

Bells Canyon- Mouth of Little Cottonwood

Twin Lakes- Big Cottonwood

Bear Trap Fork- Big Cottonwood

Willow Heights- Big Cottonwood

Brighton Lakes Trail- Big Cottonwood
