The internet is the last "free and equal"* political/commercial/other space in the world. Let's keep it that way. No surprise that our buddy ORRIN HATCH is a sponsor of this bill. I guess he's bummed that torrenting of his classic Christmas CD, "Orrin Hatch's Christmas Eve" is at an all-time low. The humiligration!

Note that

The idea behind the bill is to give the Justice Department the ability to avoid due process in shutting down or blocking access to sites deemed "dedicated to infringing activities."

The scary quote above is from one of many articles on the thing (that must be destroyed):

And a petition agin it:

This bill is supposed to be about copyright infringement. It would give the Department of Justice the ability to block a site deemed to be “primarily designed” as a pirate site with “no demonstrable, commercially significant purpose or use” other than to distribute pirated or counterfeited wares. The way I understand it the block would occur at the US-based DNS server so there are a number of ways around the block. (DNS servers outside the US and not under the jurisdiction of this law, OR re-listing the pirate site under a new URL (similar to the workaround used to get past China’s ‘Great Firewall’), OR the pirate website could be hosted and accessed via IP address bypassing DNS service, OR access from ‘outside’ jurisdiction via a VPN or Proxy, and I’m sure there are other ways. The point being that this is pointless.)
My real question becomes this; if I create a site listing the IP address for a site like ThePirateBay which would be blocked by this bill would my site then be blocked? Or, If I copy an interesting article from a local newspaper then paste and post it here on Bogley could Bogley be blocked for pirating the news?

Censorship???

That is a slippery slope, and never going to happen. Just a scare tactic. But to be honest, if people would not steal shit that isn't theirs, we would not have a problem.
