Alex Smith may never be a good starting QB in the NFL, but having 8 offensive coordinators? Damn. They looked okay against the Saints and almost got it done. They just left too much time on the clock for Brees.
Quarterbacks coach Mike Johnson was promoted to lead playcaller. Johnson becomes the 49ers' eighth offensive coordinator in eight seasons. Assistant Jason Michael was promoted to quarterbacks coach.http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=5621612

I still think Alex Smith can be a good NFL QB... it's hard to look good when you are always lying on your back.
The kid can throw darts if you can protect him...

Lack of protection and the merry-go-round at coach/offensive coordinator are impossible to overcome. I can't think of a quarterback with more things against him than Alex.

I shouldn't say this (hike.higher cover your eyes!), but maybe it started last year with Unga.
