Slot Canyons near Torrey?

Which are not exactly what I'd call "Close to Torrey" (1.5 hours away).


The Canyons mentioned above inside Capitol Reef are as good as any canyons around.... and better then a lot of more popular canyons.

I would have to politely disagree Shane.

Boulder would be closer to Torrey than places like the Squeeze and Cable (and much closer than North Wash) and there are some fantastic slot canyons there (and a good number of them). Boulder Creek for example, has some really nice slots dropping into it (and has a pretty slotty section itself even in the main canyon).

I can share some information on them, but I'm out of town right now and don't have my maps.

Most of the canyon systems in the area seem to have a least a few slots around and the scenery in that area is surpurb.

Closer to Torrey, there are some nice slots on the lower slopes of Boulder Mountain.

Even the town of Escalante itself, while not that close to Torrey would be as close to Torrey as Poison Springs and closer than lower North Wash.

Torrey to Escalante is 1.25 hours, plus dirt road driving time.... If I'm staying in Torrey I'm not doing canyons in North Wash or Escalante... YMMV...

I know very little about Boulder Mountain routes so feel free to post beta if you have something....

Knotted Rope and Quandary from the Factory Butte Road are also options.

I could have taken everyone who logged on to Bogley today to TJ.... we could have spent the entire weekend doing blow off the ass of every hooker in town while riding around on donkey's painted to look like zebra's.... and I still would have been money ahead.....

You don't have to leave the paved road to still see some of the really good stuff.

Anyway, Boulder would be about 45-50 minutes away from Torrey. Boulder Creek and it's slots are just south of town. If you haven't gone yet, put it on your list. There is not really any real slogging to get to the good slots and good canyon sections, so it's right up your alley.

I can post some beta, but not until I'm in town (weekend).

When we stayed in Torrey, we drove back up through Hanksville and then hit up the Dirty Devil area. There are some nice slots in that area, and if you are heading north afterwards you could hit up Zero G on the drive home... If Torrey is your base of operations, so to speak, Dirty Devil wouldn't be the smartest area to go to since it's maybe an hour or two away - but if you hit it up on your way out and heading back north it is worth the trip in my opinion.
