After dealing with my broken taped up phone for a while I finally decided to get a smart phone. I'm very impressed with it and haven't even cracked open the manual.
There's a tiny short in the headphone jack and I'm still within my 15 days' return time frame to WalMart if I want to take it back. I probably should next week when I get some time to see if it's really a problem.
But other than that the screen is absolutely amazing. It's a Galaxy S series phone, records video in HD, yadda yadda....
The biggest things I was looking for in a phone was to be on the Android system, film in HD, touch screen, and no moving parts (slide out keyboard).
What are some features you like about your specific phone?

The vibrant is pretty sweet, I got one for my wife. I've got the Nexus one, and I like the overall performance and the feel of the rubberized backing.
The ONLY thing I dont' really like about the vibrant is the power button is on a strange corner so it's hard to turn on/off the screen with just one hand without repositioning the phone, and the position of the USB charging jack at the top is odd.
The swype keyboard is pretty sweet, and including Avatar (?) and Sims III was kind of cool. Although I kind of got sick of the Sims III... I kept sleeping with (or "woo hooing") my boss and even married the chick and she STILL wont give me a raise. It's also strange you can make more money in a few hours of fishing than you can in an full day of working if you sell the fish back to the store... but nobody questions that my guy has a face like a chimpanzee and wears a crown on his head around town so I guess that's a plus.

too many things to list!
one subtle thing i think is neat on the iphone (perhaps others do it too): if you want to scan through a song in the ipod player, and it's a very long track, then it allows you to scan through it in coarse increments as well as different levels of finer increments. moving the finger horizontally scans through the track and simultaneously moving the finger down the screen makes the increments smaller and smaller so you can find points in a long track more precisely.
i think using vnc and viewing and controling a desktop computer remotely on a phone/ipad is pretty neat.
video chat is pretty neat.
the display is amazing, making me wish that our desktops had >300ppi
it's nice how simple making videos is too
visual voicemail (when it first came out) was super convenient
but the thing i like most about a smartphone is the simplicity of it ... phone, mp3 player, camera, computer all in one very small device.
oh, i also like being able to turn it off and ignore it.

I just brought in all of my facebook contacts to my phone so I've got their phone numbers automatically now.
My SIM card would only transfer 250 of my contacts so I lost a bunch of numbers, but FB filled them back in, and with a photo of them too from their fb profile. I thought that was nice.
I opted out of the data plan for now (gasp) but I'm usually around a WiFi connection anyways except for out on the trail. I'll get on it one of these days.
Avatar in HD was nice, I doubt I'll get into the Sims III game though.
It would be nice if it just came with a tripod 1/4" thread so it would take stable photos or shoot some good stationary HD video, but then again it's a phone.

Oh, if you haven't already - you should set up Google Voice - the coolest feature of GV is that it will transcribe your voicemails and email you a (rough) transcript of it - usually it's close enough to know what the message was without having to listen to it.

after your helmet cams, i'd think you could whip up something that could work well

So the vibrants not a chick phone is it??:blbl:
Nice
I work with a few girls that have that phone. Where do you put the film? Most phones record video digitally but film is still cool.
If the headphone jack has issues take it back today. What if it permanently breaks in 3 months?

I singed up for gv a while ago, I'll have to check it out.
What's an app that will convert voice to text? Not text to voice. I'd like to not text while driving, and it sounds like that is a great alternative

I didn't know you could opt out of a data plan with any Android phone. Who is your carrier? I'm interested.

You usually can't. I'm with Tmobile and I've heard that you can opt out after a little while. The data plan purchase is necessary with the phone.
But.. I got it from WalMart and I think they just forgot to put it on there. :haha:
Hey, mock WalMart all you want, but the phone was $98 there, $150 at RadioShack, and $200 from Tmobile store.

Great deal. I've been trying to get a phone that does what yours does... but without paying $30 extra each month. I have Verizon Wireless, and there isn't a smart phone (even a smart-ish phone) I know of without a data plan. I just don't want to pay extra for the data plan when I spend 99% of my time (the time when I want to use the internet anyway) in range of a very fast wireless connection.
Good for you finding a good deal.

So I'm trying to get it to short out before I take it back, and I can't do it. It won't short out now. Now I'm wondering if it just wasn't plugged in all the way.
Crisis averted.

A cool app I just installed is the Android VNC. (free) I can remote any of my PCs that have a VNC client installed on them and have full control. :cool2:
