I don't saw Scott's The Pinnacle on his post. I was to much fixed on Frey Mesa.
Yes it's the beautiful Pinnacle in Happy.

Two Pine Arch, close to Progeny Peak.

This arch doesn't deserve its name any more as one of the pine is now down as you can see on this picture that I took in June 2012.

@Philippe (http://www.bogley.com/forum/member.php?u=2880) - You got it! Two Pines Arch in the east Zion area.

Yeah, one of the original namesake pines has been dead for some time. However, you'll notice a slightly smaller one right in front of the arch that's taking its place.

You got it Glenn! I suppose I could hold out for a bit more specific guess on location, but it'd probably take a lot of guessing? Anyway, I'm standing NNE of Sawmill Spring, http://www.zionnational-park.com/map-canaan.htm ,looking out to the plateau that contains Lower Mountain. Essentially if I followed the drainage I'm in, I'd drop off (literally) into the South Creek Drainage and eventually onto the now "Paul Allen" estate! Rather I crossed the plateau and descended the old stock trail to Eagle Crags and into Rockville. You're up Glenn!

The Highway 89 clue is confusing...this looks like the photo was taken just off of Highway 95. The post is inscribed "RIMROCK MINING CORP LTD" but I don't know any major features in that area besides Little Egypt (further south).

Wait...is this from Arsenic?

zzyzx

Bootboy, you are correct. That is Castle Gate Cemetery. I don't know if all the 171 men that died on March 8, 1924 are buried there but there are a lot of white crosses with only "March 8,1924" written on them signifying that many, many of them are buried there. Google the date and there are some heart-breaking stories and photos of the caskets and so forth. I saw this cemetery a few weeks ago when I was doing a site inspection of the Carbon Power Plant just a few hundred yards down the road from this and stopped by to see this. Yep, I'm one of the weird ones who stops at the markers on the side of the road to see what happened and I stop by all these little cemeteries to see what I can see and learn what I can learn.

You are only half right.

Assuming you're talking to me, the location where the image was taken from wasn't specified to be part of the answer. I know it's the top of Collins now but us old timers remember when you had to take two chairs to get to Germania Pass.

Up until about 7 years ago, Collins and germ were separate lifts. Collins went about 2/3 of the way up. Germ took care of the top 1/3

Nope. Now, not to be a smart ass or anything, but...there is no coastline in the Czech Republic! I guess one could mistake the water above for lakes but I'll hint that we have salt water on both sides of this thin ribbon of land. I further hint that you have the right continent. This won't help but many many people tried to convince me not to hike this peak because of the dangerous snakes. They said it was locally known as "Viper Mountain". I saw not a single snake.

We have a winner! Mt. St. Ilja on the Peljesac Peninsula across from the island of Korcula. It seems to have a folk name of "Viper Mountain" but the folks who warned me about snakes were not hikers and the summit log showed that plenty of hikers visit it all year round. Coastal Croatia is gorgeous with blue water and jagged beaches.

I'm more familiar with the the New River in Virginia where it runs through Radford and Pearisburg.

Although I have driven over the New River on the I-64 bridge and while I don't see the bridge itself...I can't imagine the mountains being that big anywhere other than through the gorge. So I'm guessing that it's a pic of the New River Gorge in West Virginia in the springtime.

I can't get any more specific than that though...

This one might be a little tough...I don't think this tank and well have been there very long. In fact, it doesn't even exist on Bing's imagery, but it does show on Google Maps.

So, here's a hint or two:

In the far distance, there are some very distinct landmarks.

This was taken in the evening and looking in a northeasterly direction.

Sandstone Addiction

Not Tables of the Sun or Mossback Butte.

These Tops, and the prominent landmarks in the distance in my pic, are about 70 miles NNW from the Tables of the Sun and are Entrada sandstone.

The name of the general area of this well would be fine.

I don't know if this is helpful in identifying the formations, but they are Summerville Formation with a little Entrada Sandstone cropping out around the edges. :naughty:

Sandstone Addiction

Correct Dennis, Summerville creates the butte.

But no, not close to Moonshine. But you would see these "Tops" if you were looking Southwest from Moonshine.

This tank is south of the DDR.

Scott P
05-10-2014, 06:01 AM
The Flat Tops were my first thought, but as Udink points out, the clue throws us off a little since only have a little Entrada around the bases. Anyway, it is the Flat Tops and Wildhorse Butte would be the one to the left and out in the distance. I still don't know what stock tank that is though.
